Central Illinois
I woke this morning to discover that my shooting bag and a small amount of cash was stolen from my truck. My wife had a 20 missing from her jeep last week. We just thought she misplaced it. I had a couple of money orders stolen for deals made here. The range box included a chronograph ammo boxes rear bag, and other range items. I thought we lived in a good neighborhood. I guess not. Anyone in central illinois see anything strange as far as people with shooting items the shouldnt have, please contact me. I hate living in town!! Police are on there way to the house, i will update. Lee

Ps forunatly i wasnt to laxy when i got home yesterday and the rifles were taken inside. I hate thieves!! I had a couple of small deals here for brass and maybe bullets, I will contact you when i know a bit more.

Re: Got ripped off!!

Fucking pieces of shit. Karma wil get them, but you are still out some gear. Sorry man. I do the same thing often. Get home from range and only take the rifle cases out of the Cruiser. Often leave a 3 day pack with quite a bit of gear, including my spotter and tripod. Will not do that any more.

Re: Got ripped off!!

That sux. I hate thieves, good luck. I leave crap in my range truck all the time......luckily I live in the styx have great neighbors and big dogs that keep me appraised of the situation.

I suspect that someone will say "you should not have left your crap in your truck" to them I say blame the criminals not the victim.

Re: Got ripped off!!

Karma will get those motherfuckers bro. You SHOULD be able to leave some stuff in your truck without some little POS stealing it. There isn't much lower than a thief.
Since I'm also stuck living in town for a while and I have a lot of expensive gear I installed cameras all over the house. Between the cameras and the two Pit Bulls I don't have too much to worry about now. Something to consider man. Even if the cameras aren't a deterrent to some shitbag at least you have is ass on tape to give to the cops.

Re: Got ripped off!!

Sorry you got ripped off skeet from the scum bags...I never leave gun related stuff in my truck after I get home. Guess you can tell by my sig line. Hope you get your stuff back some how.

Re: Got ripped off!!

I live in a truly fantastic neighborhood where neighbors don't even know where the key to their front door is and haven't locked it in months. However, I won't leave so much as a granola bar in the car overnight, just not my style.

-that style has worked out very well for me for 40 some years.

Sorry for your loss, hope it doesn't happen again.

Re: Got ripped off!!

If it's unlocked and unguarded it's unwanted.

It is sad to think of it this way, but that is the reality we live in. What is even worst is if it's kids, your gear will get broken and thrown away. If it's criminals then your stuff will get sold off/traded for pennies on the dollar. It's amazing what you can trade for crack.

Re: Got ripped off!!

When I lived in Dallas, Texas this happened to me as well. The turds took every single piece of electronics, guitars, amps, tv's, all the way down to my radio/alarm clock!!! Luckily, I had my guns with me for a day at the range. They totally destroyed my front door and entertainment center. The sad part is, my home owners insurance wasn't a "replacement" policy... check on yours!! The snot eaters took me for over $6,000. Not to mention that my next door neighbor was a cop that didn't hear or see anything.

I wish you all the luck in the world on recovering your stuff. It is sad to say, but probably won't happen. I will keep you and yours in my prayers Brother!! God Bless!!

Re: Got ripped off!!

You can't assume a good neighborhood means you won't be a victim to theft. There are thiefs who go out of their way to these "good" neighborhoods and have a hell of a time. It could have been worse... Never leave guns unattended and same for your gear!!

Re: Got ripped off!!

I live in mattoon. I called the cops on the way to work this morning and they came to the house to talk with the wife. They didnt seem to concerned. Actually they wanted to give me a ticket because my little utility trailer was on the street and not in the driveway. What the heck!! My buddy that i work with, his mom lives down the road 2 blocks. She had someone go through her car on night last week. I dont know if i mentioned this above but a couple weeks ago my kids ran in the house and said there was a fire behind the garage in the alley. I ran out to see what was up and someone filled a 2 liter bottle with some type of flammable liquid (Not gas) and set it on fire. I put it out with the water hose. I didnt call the cops but i guess i should have. Anyway i think it is probably kids, but who knows?? They took my chronograph tripod front bench rest rear bag box of ammo 30 bucks and 2 money orders. I know i shouldnt have left this stuff in the truck, but i guess i just dont think the way a thief would. The money orders will filled out with my info but they didnt have the name of the payee on them yet. The bank is on the look out. They want 25 bucks a piece to cancel the darn things. That doesnt make any since to me at all. One money order was for a rifle barrel and it was printed for 250 bucks. I am upset with my self the most as i should now better. I hope they catch the jerk or jerks who are responsible for this. I am glad my rifles were not in there. I always take them out though. About 7 years ago i lived in a small house with no garage down the road from my folks. I did all my reloading in there garage and cleaning. I got home one Sunday evening from a tournament and was beat so i left three of my browning over/ unders in the garage with the intent of cleaning the next morning. Well i went back the next morning at 5am and the shotguns were gone. That mistake cost me about 7 grand!! Insurance covered them but they droped me after the claim. I am still paying for that as my insurance is still high because of the company dropping me. That was only the second claim i had ever had in 10 years of owning my own home. Needless to say i cant stand a lier or a thief. I am sure my gear is in the ditch down in the town branch somewhere and i will most likely never see it again. I just hope they try to cash the money orders!!! Maybe i will get lucky there. Thanks for letting me vent a bit!! Lee

Re: Got ripped off!!

That sucks man. My mom got robbed 2 weeks ago, lost a lot of valuable jewelry. Can't emphasize enough how much I'd love to get my hands on those SOBs. Or even a hollow-point, for that matter.......grins

Re: Got ripped off!!

I am sure they are still around. Bait them with something that looks like it is worth a lot. and set up a hidden Game camera or video cam. Trust me they will return and you will probably be supprised as to who it is. They usualy know the neighborhood so they either live there or know someone in the 1 or 2 block radius.
My survaliance cameras have caught 4 different breakins and had 3 of them identified as ex workers and they were caught. this is in a approx 4 year time period at my business warehouse. No one ever touched my shop, just both sides and 2 acrossed the street. Nailed 3 of the bastards.
I hate thieves with such a passion that I installed all the video cams long ago.
E-Gay has a lot of cheap wireless systems that will work.
Good luck on having some of your stuff returned.

Re: Got ripped off!!

As a LEO I can tell you these types of crimes are on the increase. We had an incident last month where they hit twenty (20) vehicles with unlock tools. We caught them and they got probation! Best bet is keep your valuables out of the vehicles. As bad as it sounds I don't even lock mine up. Nothing in it and no damage if they want in it to see.

Re: Got ripped off!!

They know it is. The perp is a 13 year old and they will not tell me who he is. He got caught trying to sell my GPS at the pawn shop. I label everything and i have caught hell because of it from some of you guys when i show pics with my items labeled in the back ground. Anyway i had my name and number inside the battery compartment. the pawn man thought something was up when a kid brought in a GPS that cost 500 bucks and it didnt have a power cord. The kid says he got it from another kid?? Ya right!! The police arent telling me much!! Lee

Re: Got ripped off!!

Juvenile law is frustrating. IMO they are coddled and babied by the courts. They get away with WAY to much IMO. The word is out with the juveniles. They know nothing will happen to them and as a result they don't care. More and more of them are smart mouth punks. We are finding weapons on them now with more frequency. Thankfully most of them don't know how to use them very well. I am sure it has always been said but "I am really concerned about this newer generation".

Re: Got ripped off!!

I walked out about midnight to smoke on night back in the summer of 2006 and noticed the light was on in the wifes car. I walked over and saw a kid digging through the car. After I yanked him out of the car and helped him get up off the driveway about 5 times I took his wallet and told him if there even a rock missing from property I am calling the cops and when they get here I am going to give them your wallet and tell them I found it in the area of the missing property. That wallet still sits on the mantel today and we havent had any more issues. I did put up motion lights around the house that summer also.

Re: Got ripped off!!

Bait these pricks! They will be thinking "guns" now that they found that stuff. (KEEP YOUR HOME SECURE, and set up a few rooms for a quck grab just in case they come inside!) Anyway, put something they can see in the car, like a big duffel bag, a Pelican case something they can't resist. Get a few bud's over and wait. Weekend night is probably best. String up a quick set trip wire, in case one get's away, and have a good super bright stroblight with you, some pepper spray, and maybe a nice stun-gun. (A tube of Superglue... for later.) Let them get in the car, when they back out blast them with the stroblight to disorient them, this will buy you a few seconds. Now, give them a nice shot of pepper spray and a good blast to the nad's with the stungun. Here's where the Superglue comes in, put a nice layer on one of their hands and squeeze them together. This makes stealing much harder, and if there are two of them, which is most likely, have them play a nice game of paddy-cake after putting on the glue. These's guy's will "really" stick together. Now, strip them naked and send them on there way, or call the local PD. Oh, and don't forget to give the cop's that "big knife" you found one of them carring. Thus the use of pepper spray.

Re: Got ripped off!!

The is a company that advertises in the Gun Digest (ex Gun List) that sells all sort of wonderful motion and trip wire activated serious pepper spray rigs. They really f--- you up as my poor neighbor who tripped one in my upstairs closet found out.
Some even reset and will shoot up to 4 separate charges (for when they come back). Also put a big reward in the local paper, one of their scumbag buddies will turn them in.
Finally the 32 oz Bear pepper spray rigs we carry out here in Griz country will shoot about 20-30 feet and really get a bad guys attention.
I like the super glue idea but I'd glue their penis to their balls (Wear gloves). 3M5200 is even better (that's what they glue fiberglass boats together with.)

Re: Got ripped off!!

I had some stuff stolen out of my Truck 20 years ago and if the kid hadn't stole a pistol from someone else he might have got away.

I'm an IronWorker and I had my Rod Belt a Welding Jacket and Binoculars in my Truck. The kid stold my Rod Belt and Bino's and left the Welding Jacket. I knew it wasn't an Ironworker that did that, they would have took the Jacket and left the belt if they were smart. Anyway I guess the kid went to another house and Stold a Pistol and then tried to sell it later on. The guy that was going to buy the pistol had a check run on it and found it was stolen. The Cops searched the kids Bedroom and found my Rod Belt all tore apart in his Dresser and found my Binoc's also.

I did love what happened next for me anyway. This happened on a Sat night so on Monday I had to buy new Tools. After the kid was convicted I got my Old Belt back and then the Kid had to pay me restitution as well.

The Bino's the Cops said they had as well but when I picked up my stuff they were missing. The Cops then started shitting Twinkies because Deer season was coming up in two weeks. They just happened to find them a few days before I left to go Hunting.
