Finally got myself a bigger Salmon and bottom fishing boat. A 18' North River and I'm in need of a quality gps/fish finder combo that is simple stupid to use and does the job. I'll be fishing 99% of the time in the North Pacific ocean off California. My target species are Salmon and rock fish mostly. Halibut as well, but I imagine those don't show up on a finder while glued to the bottom. Albacore and some Humboldt squid if they are in the area. Now take into consideration I'm mildly capable with electronics but have never, not even once used a fish finder Been fishing forever from my 14' Klamath but that didn't have any room for electronics. So, give me your opinion on what brand/models I should consider. Budget is right around 1K. Could be a bit more if it makes a huge difference. Thanks in advance and happy fishing this summer.

i only have experience with in shore fishing walleyes but in your price range i would look at the lowerance elite 7. it has the fish finder and internal gps with good mapping for the lakes i fish dont know about oceans. It has the regular sonar plus has the dsi feature which is the down scan. that might just be the ticket for the fish that are glued to the bottom. it is supper user freindly go look around online and i am sure you can find some videos
