Grandsons 10th birthday rifle

Very nice. I haven't been impressed by Crickets quality wise, they just seem to toy like to me, but I can see where that one has some appeal

The thing about that one is that it looks like "mom or dads" rifle.

I got my son (8 at the time) and my daughter (also 8 when she got hers) Winchester 67A "Boys" Rifles.

The top is from the 1950s and the bottom some time in the 1940s. Winchester built these like they built the adult guns.

Thing about these - though they love shooting them - it doesn't usually look like what Im shooting and they always ask to shoot mine.

Depending on the age of your grandson be prepared for it to be tough for him to pull the cocking piece back. My son had troubles at 8 but got the hang of it by 9. It was added safety, Id stand to their left, he would open the action, I drop in the round he closes, I cock, bang. Good fun.

My kids have been told no scopes until the pound the black with iron sights.

Pictures and range report when you get it out. Have fun.

A full size 67 is what I learned on, my Grandfathers rifle. When I reached 10yo Dad gave me the H&R Targeteer he bought when I was born in 47. Still have it today, an will be the Grandsons when I'm gone. It has put more meat on the table than any other gun I have ever owned, an had the Game warden shaking his finger in my face many times before I reached 16yo. He always told me "this is your last warning" but he knew we were eating what was killed. Being poor had/has it's advantages, I guess.

I like it. It looks like they kept the single shot and manual cocking knob. I can't quite see if the bolt lock is still on it, but that is a big feature to me when dealing with young children.

Hopefully they scaled it up a little because the standard one is probably already too small for a 10 YO.
