Every once in awhile someone posts about ammo problems with large frame ARs. I thought I'd post my experience in hopes of being helpful.
I shoot a Baer Monolith .308.These are built with very tight match chambers/essentially custom barrels and are extremely accurate. On the other hand they (or at least mine) seem finicky about ammo. I had pierced/lost primer issues and occasional jams with Federal Match 175 and 168s from several commercial builders and also the occasional problem with Hornady Match.
After following several threads here (including George's recommendations for Copper Creek Gas Gun ammo) I decided to ask Adam McCourt (who builds custom ammo for me) to see what he could come up with. He built me a test series of 175SMKs and I had a chance to shoot them last week.
All functioned perfectly: no primer or extractor problems whatsoever. Best of the bunch clocked 2540fps from an 18" barrel, shooting <.5MOA at 100yrds. This is an admittedly small series and starting point: we'll have to see what happens with more rounds. But, things look very promising.
Adam has helped me with other projects (Chad Dixon Scimitar .260-see least year's threads) and his ammo just plain works. For someone who doesn't have time to reload and tinker, its been a good way to go.
So for you guys with persnickity gas guns think about giving him a call.
