I was about to give up om my 77-22. I installed a Volquartsen barrel and a Boyd's stock. I bedded it and did a trigger job. The best I could get out of it with any ammo was .75" with a rare .5" thrown in. I sent it off to C.P.C. just after Hurricane Sandy. It arrived this week and it is now driving tacks. I was about to turn this puppy into a jack handle. I can't say enough about C.P.C. The photo below is five shots at 50 yards. The squares are 1". It does it nearly every time when I do my part.

What type of work did C.P.C do to get that type of improvement? I am starting a 77/22 build myself and would look forward to any hints on improving the accuracy of this rifle.

I would go to the website http://www.ct-precision.com/. I had the 77-22 combo. He does some major bolt work to tighten it up. Then he sits the barrel back and cuts a new chamber with the correct head space. With the Ruger design there is a lot of room for head space variances. If you add up all the dimensions from the locking lugs forward that have to be perfect and then throw on an aftermarket barrel then you are lucky if it isn't an accuracy issue. The price is a bit over $200. Well worth it in my humble opinion. My gun was built in the 80s. It never shot well. Probably not right when it was made. I tried a Douglas drop in. It didn't improve a bit. I knew nothing of what makes a rifle shoot back then. I tried the Volquartsen. This produced a slight improvement only. It was then a safe queen for years until I read about C.P.C. You might get lucky so try it out before you send it off. If it doesn't he will make it the best it can be. Hope this helps.

Re: Great improvement in 77-22 accuracy

Thanks klf, I have been looking at his site and have heard great things about his work on several forums. Thanks for the info. I will be limited to what can be done on mine as "Canadian customers can not send a receiver. Please call" will play a huge part in the work he can do. I am looking at this build to get the very best accuracy out of the 77/22 in a light weight package. A Volquartsen 77/22 Lightweight THM Tension Barrel with a carbon fiber sleeve might be part of this package too. Any thing that gets me smaller groups will help! Yours is shooting nice now!
