Grizzly Big Boar .50 bmg

Re: Grizzly Big Boar .50 bmg

There's nothing wrong with a shell holder action.I've had an earlier McMillan as well as 2 State Arms shellholders. My experience with the Grizzly (older model) was a VERY inefficient muzzle brake. They are reasonably priced. They don't get alot of respect from the TAC338 crowd but for a first fifty-the price is right.

HAving shot 50's for over 15 years-YOU HAVE TO RELOAD. And it isn't like loading 308. You'll be doing ALOT of case work. Buy as much components as you can-ask questions here and get after it.

If you expect to get 1 moa accuracy with out of the box ball-you will be sadly disappointed. But for less than 3 grand you can play.

A lot of case work. That makes me chuckle.

My last bit of case work on some "nice" LC brass took about 6 hours of work.
Here you go.

Take Lt.'s comment on reloading as gospel

Even if you don't have a borerider chamber-50BMG brass is VERY inconsistent. Even a very slight uniforming of neck thickness does effect accuracy. I use a K&M case turner. Ken retired and no longer sells his OUTSTANDING products out of Pa. Precision Reloading is handling the distribution now. CLICK HERE

ANother big accuracy killer is the resizing ball on the deprime rod on a full length resize die. CH-4D makes a beautiful bushing die.Wideners has them in stock on occasion or you can order from CH-4D. CLICKY

Bottom line-reloading is essential, accuracy is will elude you,but you'll have fun pulling the trigger.

I've had several 50's. Now I have a Ferret Supercomp w/chromoly lower with a 29" Lothar walther 1/15 with a hybrid chamber. Larry at State arms is building me a borerider stick with a .554 chamber. I am seeing sub moa with all my loads to beyond 1000yards.I've had McMillan's, Barretts and State Arms.O would like to build up a dedicated benchrest gun with a BAT action.

Problem is too-many nitwits blasting up ranges-shooting APIT,Tracer-starting fires-wrecking steel targets. Not having any idea how to get a zero. Its a shame-the 50 is alot of fun.Politicians aside-you be surprised how many "fellow shooters" don't want them on the range.

PS; Mechanic-If you are tired of that old press-let me know,I'd be glad to take it off your hands.

Re: Grizzly Big Boar .50 bmg

I have the CH4D bushing die. Works great and lets me do the DTC and the BMG with the same die. Thinking of having someone make me a .10 spacer so I can do easy changes between the two. I will most likely keep the press.

if I die I will let my wife know so you will be first in line.
