I just bought a ground blind and wanted some opinions how how far in advance to set it up to get the deer used to it before the season opens?

I bought a Primos/Double Bull Darkhorse and also wanted to know what you guys put on the ground inside the blind. I was told to cut it down with a weed eater or put some carpet inside of it.

Any thoughts?

Re: Ground Blind?

I usually just clear or beat the vegetation down where I am going to put the blind. As far as a time to put it out I believe is weather permitting. They can get beat up in storms so make sure your not going to sacrifice a expensive blind. Set it out in your area about 3-5 days prior and brush in the outside with natural brush from the area. I use zip ties and 550 cord to attach brush, grass and small trees to my blind.

Re: Ground Blind?

I have a few of the older Double Bull blinds. If yours are made as well as mine then you have a very good product.

I have put my blinds out as little as one week in advance. Sometimes even less time before hunting. Alot of times I have hunted them the same day I put them out. They work great.

Sometimes I will brush them in a bit. But normally I just pick the darkest spot I can find. And usually on the approach trail. On the inside I just stomp down whatever growth is there. Just enough to do away with the noise. Especially the dry leaves. Just brush them out.

I am a handicapped hunter. So the blinds work great for me.

I use a handicapped shower chair inside the blind when I hunt. I like them because you order them with the large suction feet, so they do not sink down into the dirt that far. And you can level them on about any terrain. They are a good solid and comfortable chair. Tom.
