Let's start off with I am not the best of shooters, but I enjoy shooting on a weekly basis. About a month ago I was at the range with a member here and shot this 5(five) shot group at 50 yards with my Anschutz. Front Harris bipod and rear bag.

I don't know if I will ever shoot a group like this again, however I introduced a new shooter today. My seven year old little girl, and she had a blast. That group will soon be forgotten, but not the memories made today.

Group measured .278 outside minus the .22 equals .058.

My picture taking abilities suck though. Enjoy!!!!

She was shooting a Marlin model 60 and cci ammo. Not the good stuff yet.

I agree, thanks for pointing that out.

I've been asking if she wanted to with me for about 2 yrs. Answer was always "maybe next time, when I get older". This time she said "Sure, let's go." I couldn't believe it.

I'm not the final authority, but Rimfire results & accomplishments are based off 50yard quotes per standardized jargon for rimfires.

If your asking had he shot this 50 yard group @ 100, would it have actually measured .116", the answer is highly likely to be no. Thats like expecting a rifle that shot a 1" group @ 100 to be expected to have been a 12" group had the original group been actually fired at 1200 yards. It just does not work that way.

AWESOME group. I'm getting excited to have my trainer project completed.

Re: Group of a lifetime

Hell, I'm not here to argue somantics. The measured group is 0.058. You can double it, triple it, multiply it by the square root of Maser for all I care. I was just sharing my shooting experiences.

No Tansinator!!

Don't take it wrong or in the negative in the least! You shot an awesome group. Incredible- really. No one has said anything even remotely negative.

I'm in the works of trying to get me a trainer put together, and I could only ever hope to shoot such a group with it even once!

Bravo! keep at it and keep posting targets!

Re: Group of a lifetime

Tresmon, when you get your trainer built, come down to Chattanooga Rifle Club and shoot our monthly rimfire match. I figured through your previous posts that you shoot out of a sling with apertures, but we also have an F-class 22 match mixed in with the sling shooters.

Please understand I am by no means saying it is not a good/great group. The question is when a rifle/shooter is referenced as sub-moa it has a basis (typically 100 yards). I am trying to understand if in the rimfire world is the basis 50 yards when referencing "accuracy".

TresMon,

I do understand what you are commenting on. In the centerfire the "yardstick" is 100 yards (sub-moa), as you commented I am curious if in the rimfire world it is 50 yards.

Re: Group of a lifetime

yeah Chiller,

50 yards is the stick by which rimfire's are measured!

Tan,
I got nothing against Peeps/apertures! In fact they are to me nostalgic as hell.
It's just that I NEVER have had the eyes to shoot to my true ability with open sites.
I'd love to come down when I get it together!

Re: Group of a lifetime

Chiller,

Maybe some others will chime in on your 50 yards being where accuracy is measured. I've kinda always heard that shooting a 22lr at 50 yards was comparable to centerfire at 100 yards, and shooting 22lr at 100 yards was comparable to 600 yards centerfire. They can correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Group of a lifetime

My understanding is that 50 yards is the standard. Maybe they could be more informative over at Rimfire Central.

When I make an effort to equate the R/F challenge to a C/F challenge, I use TOF (Time Of Flight) as my yardstick. I'm currently trying to develip a Rimfire simulation of our Odessa FV200 (200yd F-Class Rules, V-Target) events, and so far; I'm looking at 1/2 size targets at around 80yd. TOF is right about equal.

Re: Group of a lifetime

tansinator,

It is great to see your little girl shooting and having fun. I just did a krylon camo job on my 20yo Marlin with the 4X scope on it for my 6yo daughter. She went out shooting with me and you should see the pics of how happy she was to be shooting with dad. Now that is something to remember!!!

I also just ordered a shooting mat from midway for her to lay on next time. My princess has her needs!

Re: Group of a lifetime

PIC, I am with you. When we go, the mat will be hers. I will lay on the ground. I also have a 4x's scope on the way. This was her grandfathers gun, he died right before she was born, so she never got to meet him. My father also has a Nylon 66 with a 4x scope on it that is on the way as we speak. She will get her choice as to which one she likes best. Yes, she will be spoiled.
