Basically all my shooting has been off the bench, front bipod and rear bag, I do use the sling for added stability. My group sizes at 100 and 200 are reasonable, nothing fancy but less than moa, will I or should I expect to see a considerable improvement in my group sizes shooting from the prone.

Re: Group size, off bench versus prone

Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on you. If your technique is all wrong so will be your groups. The only way to tell is get down on the ground and see.

You know what you and the rifle can do from the bench, if you can't do it while lying down prone you then know it’s all you.

Re: Group size, off bench versus prone

I have not experienced any difference in group sizes - what I shoot from the bench is the same from the prone. If I go with sling support only in the prone my wobble area opens up the group another half MOA...

Re: Group size, off bench versus prone

I can't shoot near as good from a bench as I can prone. That's because I always shoot prone. If you've been a bench shooter and are new to prone shooting, you will see your groups opening up. Goal is to work on technique until they're the same.

Don't get discouraged though, you will only get better. Right now, I'm trying to stop using rear bags all together. I keep all my targets and date them, and my groups are slowly, well very slowly, shrinking down. Someday I hope to get them to where you can't tell the difference.

idk i shoot the exact same eather way but my brother shoots much better off the bench ide be willing to bet you will be a better shot off the bench at first but the more you shoot prone the better you will get at it
