I am no sniper, nor a competition shooter, I am on the other hand getting into long range shooting, for hunting purposes.. I came here because i know there is a lot of knowledge.

I am shooting a Ruger M77 mk2, 350 Rem mag.. simmons aetec 2.5x10x44. a few ?S

I have a laminated wood stock, not crazy about it, But i bedded it with some simple epoxy, the reason i chose this is because of the high cheek weld. as far as consistancy would it be better to have a good aluminum bedded synthetic and just add a high cheek plate?

next, the only factory round availible is remington corelokt 200 gr, which this gun hates.. 4.25" group 100 yd. due to the fact remington has a 1:16 twist and for some dumb reason ruger went with a 1:12...
Now, Barnes 200 gr. tsx produce a 1.25" group the first time out, thenext 3 round group landed in 1/2" for the first 2, and a 1.75 flyer from the first 2.
Group 3, the first 2 shots touched the third was another 1.75 flyers..
Could these flyers contribute to the super creepy stiff triggeR?

last ?
what makes this gun so picky?? Ive got 1.5" cloverleafs from speer 220 gr.
2" vertical stringing from sierra's
and 1.5" randomly placed from 250 gr hornady's?

thanks for input
and lets leave out the ruger bashing comments,
i do own 3 Rem 700's and steyr.. just trying to figure out what can be done to improve it.

Re: Grouping.. picky rifle

soo many ways not to chase your tail here....

the cheek weld is at the bottom of the list,,,,last thing to figure out

triggers and barrels......find a way to get a trigger that lets off consistant

find the node and savvy what the barrel likes,,,,which requires rolling your own.

really would be a good idea to have some one look over your shoulder on your bed job....see if its kosher or not .

did you complete your profile ??

If you are thinking about getting an adjustable cheekpiece, there is a group buy going on until tomorrow. It is for the spacers that epoxy into your stock, and you purchase the cheekpiece from XLR for $25. Nicer setup than the Karsten if you ask me and costs the same. PM me for details. As for your accuracy issues, you need to get set up for handloading or make friends with someone who does. A trigger job will help some too.
