GSG STG 44 Report

I bought this 22lr clone of my MP 44 Because my MP44 is in mint condition and all matching. I was afraid of a possible parts breakage which if I could find the part might render it mismatched. Hence the GSG STG 44. I shot Remington bulk Federal bulk and Winchester. All feed flawlessly and accuracy was about 2" @ 50 yards with Federal and Winchester. The rear sight is adjustable for windage and was right on adjusted dead center. The front sight is to way to high which resulted in the groups being 8" low @ 25 yards but I was able to get it right on at almost max elevation adjustment. It will take a slow file adjustment to properly register the elevation setting.
All in all i am very pleased with the GSG STG 44 as a fill in for my MP 44.

The photo is a stock photo of the GSG STG 44 and the Pine case it comes in. It sells with either 10round or 25 round magazine at the same price. The weight and feel is almost exactly like the real MP 44.

I have one of the original GSG-5's and it's a hoot to shoot! A bit of a bugger to clean though. I've looked at a GSG-1911 several times but ended up going with a Ruger 22/45. haven't seen one of these yet in person, but it looks like a fun and cool gun. GSG make surprisingly decent quality product for the price point. Enjoy your new toy!!

I have one these .22's also. Same experience with accuracy and the front sight.

It's fun to shoot and easy to maintain.

A couple of photos of mu MP 44. All FXO including magazine. Not much of a story behind it except I was contact acted by a Dealer in McLean TX, who was a old friend of a good friend of mine who new I was looking for a minty MP 44 ( I only collect milsurps in excellent to mint condition unless it is a very rare weapon) that had never been messed with. I bought it about 10 years ago for $6000 which was a lot at that time It came with a total of 7 magazines. . But I always went by the philosophy "Todays top dollar is tomorrows bottom line".

change out bushing an guide rod ,runs great, houser bought it to play the 22? sped match at conover
runs fine, most 1911 aftermarket stuff goes right on,
only con is the POS sights, plastic, screws strip out but plenty of good aftermarket units that will work

Yeah I almost went down that road several times, even had the cash out to buy one once. However, factoring in swapping in all the real 1911 parts just added to the cost when compared to the Ruger 22/45. Plus it is threaded 1/2-28 versus the GSG needing the adapter, and at least the Ruger magazines were at the time cheaper by $20 per mag IIRC. It's not a 1911-22, but with the Volquartsen trigger and sear my 22/45 is SWEET. Both are good pistols just a little different. I'll pack it along sometime to a match.
