They already know who has guns and who don't. Credit card purchases for ammo, and accessories is all they need.
Not everyone buys every gun from a store. You might have heard about private purchases with cash or private trades.
I left the NMCC in the Pentagon about 7 years ago, and I can absolutely say that any kind of electronic device that could be used for communication (phone, smart watch etc...) had to be left outside the "working space".
It has been quite a while since people have been able to remotely record off of another device, even when that device was turned off by the user.

In order for private party purchases to be legal you have to know that the purchaser can legally own a firearm. If I'm looking for an EDC, a defensive weapon, or any firearm for that matter I want there to be no doubt it was a legal purchase.
Another issue of concern is the stance your credit card company may take on firearms. They could possibly deny the purchase if you are using their card. I have experience with Wells Fargo denying a CC purchase so it's not a stretch to think some anti-gun nut that runs one of these might decide to block firearms purchases. Use cash and not worry about it...until cash goes away
I wouldn't carry a firearm if I believe restraint laws worked well. In any case if I didn't want my foot print to be on the radar then I wouldn't be making statement like parking lot purchases on the web lol.

I just assumed as soon as I started jumping through NFA hoops that I'm on a list that's easily accessible by people wanting to kick down my door and shoot my dogs. Joining here pretty much solidified my belief that it was true. so to those pissed about this...
Most vendors on GB for example and some smaller firearms companies charge 3% for using a credit card so offer to pay with check/money order. Use cash for local purchases.
Of course this would be a pain compared to using a credit card but an option none the less for GB.
Better yet sign up for the PX if your not already there’s a lot of stuff for sale right here.
EDIT: I called/contacted several firearms related companies to ask about various forms of payment accepted.
Midway USA, Palmetto State Armory, SG ammo, and Primary Arms all accept Visa gift cards for payment but none of them accept personal checks or money orders. They mentioned it can take up to 48 hours for Visa gift cards to clear compared to a credit card.
Brownells does accept personal checks and money orders/cashiers checks for payment. No cash discount. You have to call Brownells @ (800) 741-0015 and ask for order processing. You provide the part numbers, the rep gives you the grand total and order number, you then mail a check/money order with the order number to Brownells. The rep is researching if Brownells holds the check/money order for 7-10 days to clear or if they go ahead and process the order same day check is received.
Visa gift card is the easiest option by far however check is an option with Brownells.
Of course this would be a pain compared to using a credit card but an option none the less for GB.

I saw that as well, they have a good point. As mentioned, they already do this for human trafficking, money laundering and other illegal activities. Purchasing a gun (legally) is still a legal activity, but this push for the credit card activity is more for future laws. What if they pass a law that says you cannot purchase more than 200 rounds of ammo in a given year, this would give them "suspicious activity" when they see you went to any of the numerous online ammo stores and made purchases, you might not have even purchased ammo but it is "suspicious" none the less and cause for them to send the gestapo and harass you at the least.This is a good read on the topic - how we got here and where we are likely going:
