Another XLR class is complete. 3 of 6 shooters used AI AX or AX-MC rifles, 1 Desert Tech SRS and two custom builds completed the lineup. 338 LM, 338 Norma and 300 Norma were used, 3 of the 6 also shot suppressed. Weather cooperated nicely, hits on the calibrations range were recorded out to 2000m, though some scopes were out of elevation at 1900m. The Magnetospeed target flasher systems worked great, we ordered 10 more for future classes. The new three piece steel targets work great out to 1400 or so, after that it's getting pretty hard to see movement in the plates. We are adding an acoustic chronograph point at 500 yards, and we are hoping a new acoustic target system will be delivered and installed before the next class. That target system should improve turnaround for the 1000 and 1500 yard calibration shots, as well as providing downrange velocity for confirming BC during calibration. We now have a much improved camera system as well, Walt has really got that worked out well with his work at Ko2M, the 2K plate was no problem to spot. We demoed the PVS-26, 27 and CNVD-LR, as well as the IR Defense (now Trijicon) M300W thermal system.

Items of note. 2 of the AI rifles had a pierced primer problem. During PR7 the week prior, while shooting in .308 config several times a small disc of primer cup was punched out by the firing pin and the rifle would FTF until the bold was removed and the FP assembly removed to clear the system. It then happened again during XLR with 338LM in another rifle. Prime ammunition was being used, it is unknown if it is a primer issue or an overpressure problem. It only happened some 4 times total, but it is worth noting. Prime also displayed the most total indicated runout while demonstrating the Accuracy One runout gauge system. This should not be taken as a bashing of Prime ammo, we don' t know if it is just this lot or caliber, but it would merit some checking if you are using Prime 338 LM.

The original Terrapin and the Vector 21 used by two teams managed to range all the targets well, the Sig 2400AB unit did not fare as well, being unable to range the calibration plates at 1600M and beyond, and failing on some of the practical exercise targets as well. We eagerly await delivery of the Terrapin X. We are working on an RS232 Bluetooth adapter so it can be connected to FFS. Rangefinders continue to be problematic with advertised performance failing to meet expectations in the field.
