Advanced Marksmanship Gunsmith necessary?

I realize I'm years behind most folks on this site being new to long-range precision shooting so bear with me...

What degree (if any) professional gunsmith service is required to re-stock a Remington 700 from factory stock to something aftermarket?

Depends on the aftermarket and what sort of bottom metal you want on it. Generally, none is required for a standard drop-in BDL with Remington bottom metal.

You may have to sand the barrel channel to get a good free float.

If you post specifics then we might be able to offer better advice.

I'm currently thinking the AICS State 1.5 stock under one of the R700 models with the SF barrel.

Not sure about the AICS installs, I've never done one myself but there are plenty of people on here that have. Maybe they'll chime in.

I seem to remember needing to make a milling cut on the receiver to accept the magazines and maybe a bolt stop modification but that might be the seekins I'm confusing it with.

You could call AICS and they would be able to tell you for sure.

Not sure what a Rem 700 SF barrel is (Stainless fluted perhaps), but my Rem 700 LTR barreled action dropped right into a AICS 2.0 (AICS 1.5 same same, except non-folding). No mods were required, except that I have a Timney trigger installed on that barreled action, and it required a few minutes by me to file down the long trigger pin.

The only combination of Rem 700 and AICS that I can think of, that might require gunsmith intervention, is if you have a Jewel trigger installed.

The AIC should just drop in if it is all factory. I shoot with 2 guys that just went over to the AIC with their 700's and not a problem at all. You dont need to get aftermarket bottom metal. It is already build into the AICS system. Just bolt in the rifle and shoot.

Yeah if you can turn an allen wrench you too can install a rem700 into an AICS stock...
