I would have paid for my own plane tickets if it would have got me out of cleaning HMMWVs at the motor pool or drawing rifles two or three times a week to clean.

Had we spent all the stupid time doing make work learning to use a map and compass fucking boots would be capable of safely calling fire with both air and arty.

Instead we devised unauthorized methods to ruin rifles through over cleaning.

Make as part of work up for overseas deployment a trip to either a northern or southern border area.

They are above all other duties a forward fighting element, they are not supposed to be tasked with long term occupation. That duty falls on the Army, of which they have as much support aircraft relevant to "civil" duties as the Marines, they just don't launch them from aircraft carriers. If the cartels come with IEDs and we need to kick their doors in, sure. I seriously doubt this would be the case.

There are right and a wrong ways to do anything, using the border as a USMC training ground is probably not the best way to train them. If that were the case, surely I would agree it's a good idea, I just don't think that's the case. As far as the government using private citizens land "with their consent", I think we all can all read between the lines of history there. It's a slippery slope.

I just don't like the government throwing around its power in wanton fashion. I think in this situation we'd be setting the Marines up for an exercise in disappointment and frustration with little else to be gained, not saying they couldn't do it all the same. I'm saying that alternately if we tasked the problem to a branch whose job it actually is, like the DOJ BP, we can avoid that can of worms. That's my opinion. I see the immigration issue a failure of the DOJ that they need to be reformed to atone for. I get the whole hell or high water, this problem needs to be fucking over with for the good of American citizens, but the Marines have better shit to do and better places to do it.

When our military is deployed to protect our borders they should have orders to use lethal force without warning against every incursion. Anything less is just another way to Keep the border open while pretending to do something.

When My Dad went to army boot camp in WWII they told him that when a sentry was standing watch if he saw an intruder he was to holler HALT one time and if the person did not halt he was to shoot until that person was dead. They said that they would then that very day or the following day at the latest convene a court martial, charge the sentry with murder, convict him, penalize him with a fine on one dollar. In most cases they claimed that the Sargent would pay the dollar for him. Under the US Constitution they could never be charged again because of the Double Jeopardy provision.

My point being that to stop unauthorized entry you must me willing to use lethal force.
