Gunsmithing H.S pad removal

Re: H.S pad removal

When I froze mine and then knocked it off with a hammer, a couple little chunks of the fiberglass stock came off with the recoil pad. I probably wont do another one that way again. A little marine-tex filled those gaps. I guess I was lucky I didn't break it worse.

A band saw is what I would suggest. Take your time, cut close to the hard black plastic at the seam of the fiberglass stock. It will leave a nice clean edge to work with.

Re: H.S pad removal

i left the backing pad on (the hard plastic part) and just took a straight razor and slid it between the soft and hard parts and then took my thumb and it pealed right off

Re: H.S pad removal

Here's my experience removing mine.

I tried the freezer method. No go. I couldn't get any movement out of the pad at all and all I was doing was tearing up the stock.

Then tried a heat gun. I have one from a guy that used to build model planes. It worked great. Just had the stock supported and ran the heat gun around the pad/stock seam until it was as hot as I felt comfortable getting the rubber pad. The exacto knife slid into the seam smoothly and after a little prying here and there, the pad came right off. The glue responds to heat very well. I even re-heated the glue a little to get all the glue off the pad and stock once they were separated. Good luck!!
