Had a stroll in a wood this morning:

Longest shot was 160 yards, nearest was 25 yards! There's actually two different species here, the smaller two are Roe, the bigger is a Fallow. Not bad for an hours work. Got another Roe in the evening. These are the first kills I've made with my new scope, nice way to christen it!

Re: Had a good hunt this morning!

Hardly any at all really mate.

You have the initial drama of applying for a firearms licence where you request the calibre's you require to meet your needs and quantity/type of ammo you want to hold. To shoot deer all ammo must be expanding, ie soft point etc, hollow points are frowned upon despite the amount of success you guys have with them. Then you need to prove you need the guns, no problem for me as a hunting guide, but if you live in the slums of London you'll have to work hard to prove your need!
They're also hot on Where you want to use them, they even come out and look at the ground to deem it safe for rifle use, this will seem strange to you guys with all those wild open spaces, but the population density on our little island is huge, so you're never that far away from residential areas.

One area we have you guys beat is the amount of deer we can shoot. We don't have your tag system. In theory, i could go out and shoot 100 deer a week and it wouldn't be a problem. It could be hunting with an outfitter which would be expensive, or on your own permission. So you guys have some quality surroundings to hunt in, but we have the quantity of shooting.

Re: Had a good hunt this morning!

Last weekend i was shooting at Bisley, UK. Since this is very close to the hunting grounds of Hide Member Nick, i gladly accepted a hunting invitation from him. So, after shooting a small 200y "sniper" competition called the McQueens, and a 4,5,6,8,900 and 1000y F-class competition, i packed up my TRG 22 and some 308 hunting rounds and went over to meet and greet Nick at his Hunting grounds. We went on an excellent 3 hour stalk and although i did not get to shoot a buck, we did see 4 doe's. Nick was walking in front of me, and at one time he halted and gestuered with handsignals for me to come closer...and low and behold, just 5-10yards in front of us, there is this gorgeous doe standing in front of us, trying to figure out what she was seeing. Because Nick had moved us below wind, she could not smell us. We stood there for a long time just eyeballing eachother, she took one more stepp and than finally realized it was actually 2 bloody hunters that were standing infront of here...so she jumped up and ran off, barking pissed-off all the way.
Nick is one lucky dude, cause he has some of the best looking hunting grounds i have seen in a long time. It was very great to see how well he knows every field, bush, woodland and all the trails. He is an outstanding stalker, knows what he is talking about and a great allround standup guy to be with. He even gave me 3 pieces of excelent deer meat, wich tasted great!
Nick, it was really nice to have met you and i'll be sure to come over and drop by again the next time i am over at your "Island".

Grtz,

NK.
