OK here's the deal.

I have a Smith Enterprise Vortex flash hider on a cut-down (22"barrel oal) 700P build. Now the SEI hider is acting like a tuning fork and rings like a bitch by either flicking with a finger and after a shot is fired.

Has anyone else run into this or have a suggestion on how to cure the tuning fork syndrome without replacing it with something else?

Re: Harmonics, help

I think that's just the nature of the beast with longer open-prong flash hiders. Some seem to ring more than others, and I haven't heard of a way of stopping it. My Blackout, a similar design, rings when you thump it but not when you shoot it, but I've heard others complain about theirs ringing.

Sounds like maybe it's the nature of the beast. I'll be shooting it Saturday and then Sunday night so I'll see how it goes and maybe try a few things.

Pics and a full write-up will be posted this next week under a different subject title.

Uh oh... Here it comes!

First off, you are not obviously experianced in the way of the gun to handle gun...... But I will answer your question TRUTHFULY (So you don't hurt yourself or get bad dope from someone.

First off.... WHY would you put a Flash Hider on a bolt gun? You already said in a previous post that you are only an "Enthusiast". Did you see a pic somewhere of an Operator with the same set up?

Whoa I am getting off track here.

The SEI Vortex has a four prong design that when "stimulated" by expanding gases actually vibrates... Like a tuning fork

The second problem is that the design is so that the "Vortex" created by the system to "Break Up" the gases and eliminate the flash actually speed it up and cause a turbulence wave in front of the projectile. Which in turn fucks with accuracy. I have some pics somewhere of the group size using an OPS Inc vs. a Vortex. It was a very marked difference.

I love the Vortex... on an M4 (They custom make them to accept the OPS Inc)

Precision Weapon.... No

Seems you like buying a lot of crap you actualy have NO use for... Dude have I got some shit for you
