Harris Bipod problem

Re: Harris Bipod problem

I have not. I am wondering if I have a defective unit.

I have another Harris Bipod when I hand tighten and then try to loosen, it is nice and tight.

On this one, I hand tighten and then goto loosen, its like I didnt even tighten.

I thought I read somewhere, somebody have the same problem, but I can not find that post.

Re: Harris Bipod problem

The problem with your Harris is that it's not an Atlas

I keed I keed. Try loctite first, then contact Harris. Could be a defective unit in which case they will take care of you.

When did this all start? Right off the rip or did this problem develop over time?

I have a Harris Bipod that will not stay tightened to the rail adapter. I hand tighten, but after a couple shoots is loose again.

Any suggestions? </div></div>
When you say that the bipod <span style="font-style: italic">"will not stay tightened to the rail adapter"</span>, are you saying that the thumbscrew that you tighten to secure the bipod to the bipod stud keeps loosening? If thats' the case it sounds like you need to thoroughly degrease the threads on the Harris with Acetone or rubbing alcohol.

Also, and no offense intended - but are you sure the bipod in question is a Harris? I have to ask, as there are people who buy bipods and think they're getting a Harris when in fact what they're getting are those dogshit Shooter's Ridge or other, even more crappy knock-off pieces of junk that bend or snap welds in normal use.

Re: Harris Bipod problem

+1 for using a tool, its got a slot in the thumbscrew for a reason, i use a quarter at the range and it stays tight, when i just use my hand it will loosen up on the 3rd or 4th shot

Re: Harris Bipod problem

have you tried loading the bipod. many here insist this is useful but i pwersonally cant get me cartridges to fit in the legs even when i pop out the little feets...
seriously tho this dont happen to be a john plaster wonder stock bipod adapter do it? those need a special "screw."

Re: Harris Bipod problem

It is a true Harris Bipod SLM model with the notched legs.

The "thumb" knob underneath that tightens to the rail adapter does not have a slot in it.

I had two Harris bipods attached to the rifle. The first one, when I "hand" tightened and the went to turn the thumb knob to untighten was "tight".

This bipod, when I tightened (even with a tool) and went to untighten, was like it was never tightened at all.

I have tried ungreasing the threads with no change.

I will try uploading some pictures, if that will help.

Would anybody have some pictures that they could put up so I could compare?

Thanks again

Jeff

Perfect tip. Especially with using the tools
