harris bipod question

anybody know how to get the thumb screw that use to keep tension between bipod and stud tight. every few shot i need to turn the thumb screw again due to recoil losen up the bipod, doesn't seem there any place to drop locktide either.

also the bipod rubber feet seem rotate alot when loading bipod on wood/hard surface? is it suppose like this or anyway fix it?

not the screw adjust the swivel but the knob front/underneath the bipod that tighten the pod to rifle.

i bought it from midwayusa, got a package says harris engineering etc. etc so i assume its the real deal. doubt midway will sell fake ones. yes the screw lose after few shot and the rubber feet rotate on hard surface.

ill try tighten down with allen wrench+some locktide

but what about the rotating rubber feet, i'm guessing this is normal? when on hard surface even slight load will cause feet to rotate, and cause bipod moving foward.

Why can't you use locktite on the middle of the thumbscrew where it engages the threads?

I've not had an issue with the rubber feet rotating, so I cannot answer that question. EDIT: Maybe use a little Shoe Goo or Goop product in the lip of the rubber foot to keep it from rotating.

Also, while it sounds like yours is indeed a Harris bipod, Midway does also sell the Caldwell version (knockoff) of this bipod, but they sell it as a Caldwell.

I have not had this happen with my Harris, but always when I ran a knockoff. I made a nice thumbscrew from Ace hardware parts. Never came loose after that. Kinda rough, but one could come up with something a bit fancier. I spot welded the two pieces together, although some all thread and two nuts might work as well. Set you back a $1 at most. The thumb thing is a "fan shroud retainer" its kept in those small bins at Ace.

You aren't tightening it enough. Take an allen wrench and tighten it. It shouldn't come loose from the stock.

My Harris has never come loose on me, not once, ever.

You must be doing something wrong.

Is the stud itself loose? Are you tightening it enough?

Mine is really tight, to the point that I couldn't get it tighter unless I used a wrench or something.

That extra half turn will keep it tight.

As for the feet not sure on why the design but make sure you aren't pushing the rifle too much in the name of "loading". Some people push way too hard. Usually if you are pushing hard enough to have the rifle moving you are pushing too hard.

Try unscrewing the thumbscrew and wrap it with teflon tape or put soap on the threads. You will still be able to unscrew it easily if need be but it should not come loose on its own.

Phoenix Tactical offers a leg lock screw for Harris bipods with notched legs.
They sell for about $18. Direct replacement for the slotted set screw
found on each leg. These leg locks will terminate the feet rotation
inside the leg cavity.

They are sometimes hard to source though.

I did pretty much the same on mine, works really good!
