I am a misplaced shooter that would like very much to join the madness next year with one of the 2 mile competitions. Since I live on the very edge of the East Coast, I am unable to find places to shoot my specialty stick to anywhere near those distances, so ELR is actually a West Coast sport. Without a place to prepare for the competition, I have zero chance of just putting my money up and actually competing with those shooting those distance most any weekend they wish.

I am hoping to find a location that I can travel to for at least a couple of weeks to prepare. Whether getting an invite to private property or directed to suitable public land, I am asking for help. It makes little sense to travel from my home on the Ocean for just a few days. I am retired and travel by a large van which is self contained, I just need a place to shoot, and hopefully can shoot with at least one other as a spotter. I expect to have to travel to Texas, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Montana, or Oregon but would love to find something closer to NC. I suspect it is too late to travel; out this season but would love to get an early start for next years competition.

Even though I am real old, adoptions can also be considered!

For those contemplating buying a 2 mile rifle, you will be sorry if NOT living out west, it makes no sense at all but I already made THAT mistake,

You might be surprised at what you can find out east:

I think 1000 or 1200 is worthwhile as a start in understanding the ballistics of your gun + ammo.

Also, it's not at all to late to come west for a trip this year. In general, the fall and early winter can be a great time to shoot, especially in west Texas, AZ and NM. I live in CO and am scrambling to get a big pile of handloads ready for the upcoming cooler weather window.

If you get to WY, look me up, have a range with targets to 2100, plus have a buttload of ipsc's we can find a place to get to 3500, may not be the most picturesque, but you'll get some wind knowledge at distance for sure.

We have talked before in PM'S about some ELR things in the past. I may know of someone shooting 3900 with .375 CT in Kentucky and I'm trying to reach out to them

Just inside the Southwest corner of New Mexico the Whittining Center has ranges of 1,000; 2,800 & 3,650 yard ranges with camping http://dailycaller.com/2014/06/03/incredible-long-range-shooting-benchmarks-set-at-whittington-u/

All I see is classes and matches on the long back country range. A call to the center would find out for you.
The ranges are 6,000 to 6,500 feet in elevation so you need decent lungs to stay up there. If you smoked as much as I did take plenty of oxygen. It's a summer place the hunters take over in fall and it cold in the Winter and the norther can blow 100 mph in the late Winter and early Spring.

I used to have a sopt that was couple hundred yards short of 2 miles, but I had to coordinate with a neighbor I shot over 80 acres of his place. I had to make sure no cattle or people were on it. I only set I up twice. I didn't have anything that shot that far. I used my place with 100 yard range 4 miles from town that had prairie dog town on it. Last time I used it the Sheriff stopped by it was 2:00 am. Fortunately we were good friends.

Hello,

While it is not real close to you....it is on the East Coast and closer than "Out West"...Altair Training Solutions has a 2 mile firing line.

Also the Valdina Ranch in Texas has that kind of distances available. This is location of "Worlds longest shot challenge" a few months back.
