Well I ordered a S&B 5-25X PMII with a P4 reticle. The P4F wasn't in stock at the time and I thought the P4 would be better at lower magnification. Well it is better at lower mag, it's faster anyway. It's just too wide at 20-25X. Has anyone else sent their scope in to S&B to have this done? Does anyone at all even like the P4 reticle or use it at higher magnification? They said wait time is 8 weeks which isn't too bad. I love the glass though, top notch, crystal clear.

In most applications P4 is great but when I really want to shoot BR style down to the nut cutting shots I find myself wanting P4F. Quote for change P4 to P4F was $325.00 and 8-12 week turn around. I have my doubt's on their quoted turn around.

They quoted me $350, yeah I'm not sure if it's really worth it but it's still cheaper than a new scope.

They quoted me $350, yeah I'm not sure if it's really worth it but it's still cheaper than a new scope.

Mine has a dent there too, that's weird. It was the size of an a small pea.

Maybe they are discontinuing the P4 reticle?

The P4 Fine is one of the most popular rets that S&B do. Its certainly one of the most usefull.
The standard P4 is just too fat.
Makes sence to order the scope with the right reticle in it in the first place.
I cant see them discontinuing a reticle, they still do several others on request, its just that the production numbers will be geared to the P4 F as its more popular, and its faster to get a scope through the supply chain in a popular reticle as more are made in that particular reticle.

What about starting a WTT/WTB thread in the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Optics & Accessories For Sale</span></span> section? You never know - maybe some one has found that the P4F is a bit too fine for their eyesight and/or requirements. That might turn-out to be mutually beneficial as well as more expedient than having S & B retrofit the reticle.
If not, right now there are two (2) 5-25X P4F PMIIs' for sale. <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Tucsondave</span></span> is selling one in his <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">S&B PMII 5x25x56 MIL MIL P4F Like new.</span></span>, and <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">207Copper</span></span> has listed one <span style="font-style: italic">"for a fellow Shooter and CLEO"</span> in <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">F/S Like new Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56</span></span>. I have a standard P4 and I'm quite happy with it. Shooting swinging 8" plates at 1022yds and on 18x-20x, the wider cross-hairs were not an issue. I think the wider lines are .07 mils at 1k, so it's not covering up too much.
I guess if you're shooting golf balls, or prairie dogs at that distance, or farther, then maybe the standard is too thick and the fine's fine (pun intended) but it shouldn't really matter with typical tactical sized targets, like a human head, or even a torso.
