Member Link Up HAWAII SHOOTERS??

Re: HAWAII SHOOTERS??

there used to be someone here that shot at the range across from the here to eternity beach on oahu.

but interested in same and place to shoot possible I may get work there next year.

Re: HAWAII SHOOTERS??

On O'ahu there is the open to the public range at Koko Head crater. Not too shabby, though limited in distance. I shot at Iriquois Point a couple of times, but unless there is a match open to the public, it's restricted access because the Dept of the Navy runs the place.

outer islands are different and there are probably more outdoor places available than on O'ahu. Been quite a while since I was back. Grew up there and went back for a time after I got out of the Army, before moving to the mainland. IIRC, the Hawaii State Games used the outdoor range at Koko Head for the short range and handgun stuff and the longer range events were held at Iroquois Point.

Re: HAWAII SHOOTERS??

I don't know about Oahu but I'm from Maui and there is alot of places to shoot ukumehame range is on your way to Lahaina and its pretty good I dont think you need to be a part of a gun club but you might want to ask. Other than that you can pretty much shoot on the back side of the Island thats where I did all of mine. Hope this helps. ALOHA

Re: HAWAII SHOOTERS??

Anyone know of anything on the Big Island? Hilo or Kona? The wifes orginally from there and we vacation a couple times a year to see her family. I sure wouldn't mind being able to sneak off an shoot a few.

Re: HAWAII SHOOTERS??

I hear its nice there.

I've lived in the frigid northland since birth, and am really starting to think about moving there. I bet they don't even sell long pants!

Of course, finding a suitable rifle range is one of the many things that I'd need to do before actually making the jump. Something out to four or five hundred yards would be far enough to keep me happy; I'd hate to give up that part of my life.

Re: HAWAII SHOOTERS??

Getting on paper at 100+ yards is an issue out here. Currently only the military ranges offer it; Puuloa, Schofield and Kaneohe. It's pretty tough to get access, unless it's part of a sponsored competition or you're serving in the Military (still pretty hard to do).

I heard they are going to build a large shooting facility on the Big Island close to Kailua Kona. It has taken nearly 20 years to get approval on building it. It is supposed to be large enough to host most national events as well as having a regionalized LE training section.

Puuloa, or as we called it "Ewa Beach RR" is great. Qualified there 3 times and our S/S was there the whole class. Though the wind was crossed from L to R most of the time it was pretty consistent beig tradewind in nature, and you could compensate well.
I don't know what access is now that they changed the TOO for marines at pearl and in Hawaii.
There is a Puuloa Rifle and Pistol club that shoots matches there, so I suggest you contact them. I don't knw their access or if they are military affiliated. they shoot NRA, CPM and other matches. Pistol and Rifle ranges are there. Beautiful Place. I loved being there every chance I got, for as long as possible. and I was stationed at kaneohe, which was also gorgeous scenery.

Or even 300 yards! My uncle does it all the time.
