Went on a (planted) chuckar hunt last week and on two occasions I had hawks steal my birds!
First time I was coming around a hill and saw a hawk trying to take flight with a bird in it's talons. It couldn't get airborne fast enough so it dropped the chuckar and flew off. Took me a while to find the carcass because the dog had no interest in finding the "dead" bird.
Second bird was one I missed the shot on and it flew back over me and down a little valley. I took the dog back to the truck for a rest and figured I would hike back out and get that missed bird. On the way out I spied another hawk sitting in the middle of the dirt road chomping away on my missing bird. He flew off when the dog ran up but not before managing to eat the head/neck off the chuckar.
The first time was kinda cool, the second was just a waste of a bird.
