Hey folks!
This is not meant to discuss barrel nut vs pre fit accuracy or ease of use, just heat management and balance, as there is a substantial weight difference of similar contour barrels for shoulder vs barrel nut.
I am looking to discuss heat dissipation of barrels, comparing a barrel nut barrel and shouldered barrel of equal contour.
A barrel nut barrel, at the chamber and beyond, typically is 1.06" and then begins the contour taper. A shoulder barrel is near 1.22" at the chamber due to the shoulder, but then will have equal taper.
In use: 26" barrel nut MTU at 5lbs 4 oz, 26" shouldered MTU 7lbs. That is 28oz of extra weight, all at the chamber, for the same barrel(kinda)
Does this impact ability to handle heat? Does this effect balance since you're adding weight at the center of the rifle?
Curious to hear experiences.
