As some of you know over the past 2 years I’ve been scraping coin together to build my matching pair of do all/kill all walk around rifles, and finally after a much anticipated but patient wait the first of the twins is finally finished, fresh back from getting the full Shane Clancy Gunsmithing treatment.
Helga started life as a Sako 75 Stainless Varmint in 308, with less than 300rds down the barrel, when she was stripped down to the barrelled action and sent off to Shane, where he gave it a good working over:
-Barrel chopped to 20in, recrowned;
-Threaded 5/8x24 with cap;
-Blueprinted the action;
-Fitted the Near Mfg picatinny scope base;
-Bedded and floated in the McMillan Sako Varmint stock
-Cerakoted it all in OD Green and Black
The cerakote I had intended on doing myself but as my work load has increased significantly the extra cash was well spent freeing up what little weekend time I have, as the wife and kids will gladly agree.
I did have some before photos but they’re stuck on the HD of my other crashed POS computer, but a 75 Stainless varmint looks the same as any other stainless varmint.
Her younger sister, Ingrid, the 222 75 varmint I bought at the beginning of the year got sent off a few weeks ago to get the same treatment, but with a barrel change to 223. So watch this space for the lil sister to arrive.
Optics will either be a pair of Swaro Z5’s or the NF 2.5-10x32 compacts in Seekins Precision 30mm lows. The Mk4 M3 is only a temp until sufficient funds are gathered.
The twins have been a long time in the planning and execution but it’s all finally coming together, next mission will be to find some range time to get her zeroed.
Cheers
