Hi guys,

I've been browsing the forum for some time-love reading through the posts. I used to be a very dedicated long range marksman many years ago then went over to bowhunting and now I'm into long range airrifles-extremely challenging at times.
I'm not married so I spend all my free time shooting which can be between 5-20hrs a week. Been doing it for roughly 4yrs and still can't get enough. Hope I'll learn a lot from you guys and hope I'll be able to contribute as well.

Kind regards Nick

I work with a few of your countrymen; some of the finest around. Welcome!

There's a great air rifle thread in the rimfire forum if you haven't found it yet.

Thanx Redmanss, I've found the thread-very interesting.
Graham, long range with an 18gr pellet at 930fps is around 180yrds+. If you consider that a 9mm empty case at 33m represents a fig.11 target at 1336yrds. Multiply that by 3 (taking 9mm cases at 110yrds) its simlar to shooting at the fig.11 target at roughly 4000yrds-without many of the CF factors like coriolis force, spin drift etc. But you have other factors that come into play such as fill pressures and tracking your rifle's power curve etc.

I've done the 1000-2000yrds+ with anti material rifles, .338s, .50s and loved it but long range conditions with an airrifle at at 'extreme ranges' has rekindled my shooting passion, just as challenging at a fraction of the cost.

Welcome Nick. Like Redmanss pretty much every guy on my team is South African, several from Western Cape/Capetown. We have a lot of conversations regarding the limitations on gun ownership in RSA. Taking air rifles to crazy long range seems like a great way of enjoying the sport while being prohibited from owning the BIG guns.

Redmanss, since we seem to be in the same sandbox with the same co-workers I'll shoot you a PM. I'm guessing some of your guys will probably know some of mine.

Thanx BB, there aren't very many guys interested in long range airgunning here in SA-most are into Field target and bench rest. It seems I'm starting to get through to them.
We hold an annual 100m indor shoot which I haven't attended yet, my rifle isn't setup for bench rest as I do all my shooting indoors but we've had our first 100m outdoor comp-i hope that it'll be the first of many.
Thanx for the welcome.
