Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm somewhat new to the whole shooting world. I started shooting regularly about 2 years ago. I guess I caught a bug. When I started I had a two pistols and a double barrel shotgun and those were the only firearms I had. So here we are two years later and I've added more guns than I really care to count. After some discussions with friends I decided I'd like to try to do some long range shooting. I went and bought a Barrett MRAD last week and have signed up for a school in the next month or so. While I just joined, I've been lurking in this forum for a while and am very appreciative to all of the reviews, comments and opinions on here as it has helped me put together my current rifle.

I keep meaning to get out there but haven't yet. I was talking to a buddy earlier and we were going to try to find some time to go out there soon. We had a range set up last night at a friend's house. We only had 200 yards but we think we can expand it to 700 pretty easily. We had a blast shooting all sorts of stuff but the M107A1 takes the cake. It had about the same recoil as the 308 MRAD.

Yes you can, but you need to take a .50 cal course and I believe there's also a specific fee extra ontop of your membership. There's designated targets for .50s, and you cannot shoot any others except those designated for .50/

I started with the MRAD 2 years ago, but quickly picked up a used RWS Rem 5R in 308 with muzzle brake for practice. You'll have great fun, but the 338 is expensive to practice with. I picked up 2 DTA SRS A1s in 2013 with 260, 308 & 338LM and love them both. Much lighter than MRAD and bullpup design 12" shorter, so much easier to carry and shoot. When I found out before Christmas that the MRAD 308 conversions would finally be available, they sounded like a nightmare with some not fitting the older MRADs without further modifications, I put it up for sale at a small loss and ordered a Tan AI AXMC 308 with 260 conversion that finally arrived.

Much like the MRAD and about the same length and weight. I chose not to get AI's 338LM platform, because I already have that with my DTAs. I hope you have great luck the MRAD, since it also a great rifle and I'm not sure if any other 338s or 50 cals are allowed in Tennessee :) I guarrantee you're officially hooked and there won't be any looking back. I've since sold most of my pistols and ARs to finance my new reloading habit, which will bring out the best in your bolt action and I find reloading as much fun as the shooting and allows you to shoot about 3-4X more for the same money! Good luck and enjoy.
