So I looked into your shooting club. Seemed like a great place to learn, take classes, etc. It looked like it was no longer open for non-DOD civilians due to some quota. Is that still true?
No and Yes.
The club's operating agreements with Marine Corps Base Quantico, which are based on some congressional act (Sharpes?), require we maintain a 2/3rds military/DoD memberships to 1/3rd civilian. We hit that ratio a couple of months ago and started a wait list, which we have since cleared. So, there currently is no wait list for civilians.
However, and I hate to say this, you don't need to be a member to shoot a match. We use Practiscore for most matches and send the visitor's list to the PMO so you have base access. Also, if you shoot matches regularly, you can get a DBIDS card to ease access. With that said, considering what we offer in matches and range access (including shooting 1,000yds every Sunday), we think we're a good value and encourage membership so we can pay the bills as the Dept of the Navy does charge us for facilities and range use.
ETA - The next match is PRS rimfire on the 2nd, PCSL 3 Gun on the 9th and 2 Gun PCSL the 10th. We're shooting an across the course club match on the 9th and 10th and Vintage Sniper the 23rd and 24th. If you want to attend, but the match is closed in Practiscore, send me a note and I'll have the MD add you.
ETA II - We do not teach formal classes for liability reasons, but we do a lot of mentoring.
