Night Vision Helmet Mounted Thermal

Looking for some suggestions on a helmet mounted thermal for detection 100-600 yards, hogs/coyote. USA company only.

Shooting with a PVS-30 so looking mainly for detection kicked back in a blind hunting, but somewhat interested if it can be also mounted as an optic for a buddy rifle.

One I considered already is Nox-35 since I am mainly scanning pretty long ranges, anyone mount this on a helmet for hands free scanning when stationary or is this heavy as hell for that?

There aren't many HMT options, and if you add US only, the list is pretty much the NOX or the Armasight Sidekick. The sidekick image is going to be a significant step down from the NOX35, and I believe they are using a European sensor. If HMT is 100% required, I would consider adding the NOX18 to your family. Or sticking with the 35 and moving to a different scope unless swapping works for you. The NOX18 is a better HMT than scope and the NOX35 is a better scope than HMT. Anything can be used as a HMT, but it isn't optimal.

The other thing to consider is moving to a handheld. I am a diehard coyote hunter. I use a handheld scanner once on stand. I am using Pulsar products. European made with a French sensor. The list of American companies using an American sensor and selling in the commercial market is going to limit you to pretty much to NVision or Trijicon. If Pulsar works for you, I would take a look at the Telos XL50 if the size doesn't bother you as a handheld. If you still want small/compact for your handheld, probably an Axion.

Nox18 helmet mounted will get out several hundred yards very easily. Especially if you're only interested in detecting

Nox18. It’s not perfect but works pretty well for this application.

Voodoo-S or SkeetIR-X. Get your checkbook. 600yds is a very tall order for any HMT though. You might see hot dots but PID will be a challenge. This is true for all HMT systems due to the necessity of a small lens and wide FOV for anything that will mount to a helmet.

Even though the Skeet is an old design, I would say it’s still unmatched as a HMT. Very compact, wide FOV, BAE core.

And with a custom 3x magnifier, you can easily extend its PID range. Works great and keeps weight down.

Not cheap, but US performance never is.
