My customized Remington 300WM recently came back from the gunsmith after having it blue printed, Timney trigger install, Manners stock, and YHM QD brake installed.
The gun had a custom barrel on it already, which I was told was a Douglas #7 barrel with less then a 100 rounds on it (don't know if this was true). Prior to having my modifications done, I shot Corbon 190's, and HSM 210 VLD's, and HSM 208 A-Max's and the gun did not shoot well at all. 2" to 3" for the VLD's. 2" for the 208's and, hovering around 1 1/2" for the Corbon 190's. I ran a dry patch through it to discovered it was a 1/12 twist as the seller didn't know.
After customizing it, it only shoots slightly better and I've been trying several hand loads with only slight improvements, so I am considering a re-barrel.
I want this thing to be a tack driver. My gunsmith installed a Schneider M40 1/11 twist on my .308 and it is a tack driver and shoots everything load well and others into little holes.
So I'm planning another Schneider barrel for the 300WM but I'd like to know if people think the extra weight of the M40 profile offers that much more accuracy to justify it over say the SR60 profile. I shoot a decent amount generally 60 to 100 rounds once a week, so I want the best accuracy and longevity.
I'm also leaning towards the 1/10 twist so I can run the 210 VLD's and 208 A-Max.
Just curious what everyone else’s results have been and what you all would suggest to help me decide.
Thanks
