Help deciding on Manners T4A or McMillan A5

My Remington 700 in .300 WM is at my gunsmith getting some upgrades to it. Right now it has a Douglas Barrel and it's sitting in an A4 stock with the adjustable saddle that is setup for Remington Mags.

Since it's at the gunsmith I'm planning to change out the stock so that it is either the same as my .308 or similar. My .308 is running the McMillan A5 with Integral thumb wheel cheek piece and Stiller DBM. I prefer how the integral cheek piece fits my face. I have played with a Manners T4 but not one with the adjustable cheek piece. I was wondering how you adjust the Manners cheek piece and do they stay in place?

I also want to go to Badger DBM and since the A4 on my Remington has already been cut for the Rem mags it would look butt ugly to inlet and it for a Badger system.

I'm considering the Manners T4A for two reasons over the McMillan. First one which is important is that I can get one now as opposed to waiting 16 weeks. I can also get it in the MCS system which I'd be into it for the Badger DBM anyway and it would save the cost of having to pay for glass bedding.

So my question are, do these two systems feel similar or is there something I will notice a big difference about after I start playing with the Manners more. I'm also curious how the T4A cheek piece adjust. My last question is, is there a market that I can recoup some of my money for from the McMillan A4 w/saddle since it's been cut for Remington mags? If so what could I expect to get from it? I was told $500 or more from my smith, does this sound accurate?

Always glass bed. The aluminum is just something for the bedding to stick to.

I have both of the stocks you mentioned, and I prefer the Manners. Every rifle from here out will have a Manners on it.
The cheek piece on the Manners uses Terry Cross' hardware and does not move after you set it where you want it. It is adjusted with an Allen wrench. The thumbwheel on my McMillan does not feel as solid, there is still play in the cheek piece. Go with the Manners, you will not regret it.

Have not handled the A5 but I own a T4A. To adjust the cheek piece all you have to do is loosen an allen screw adjust it to where you want it then tighten it back. It also has grooves in the post that an e-clip can attach to. This gives you a preset position so to speak. It is rock solid and does not move. I have mine on a .338LM. I have a second T4A coming with the mini chassis for my .22-250.

I have both. Both work well, but I give the definite nod to the A5. It seems to "fit" me better and I feel more stable and comfortable behind it. YMMV.

Is this standard when you order the integral cheekpiece, or do you have to request it? I don't see it on their site (which they recently updated). Is this different than the standard integral cheekpiece listed?

Not standard. You have to request this specifically. It is not listed on the price list but it is definayely an option.

I own both also and my A5 has the Terry Cross cheekpiece which does make it where you have to lower or raise it with a Allen wrench, but it is rock solid compared to my buddies A5 which has the thumbwheel and wiggles around a bit. The A5 would be my choice because the grip is more comfortable since it doesn't have a huge palm swell like the T4A. The molded on finish is also WAY more durable than the painted Manners. I do however like the way the T4A's forearm stays flat and parallel to the barrel and does not taper like the A5.

I just got off the phone with McMillan. I have an A5 on order that I wanted to change to Terry Cross hardware. They do not have it installed, or ship to Terry. McMillan will inlet for Terry Cross hardware, and when I receive the stock, I can then have it sent to have the hardware installed. McMillan does not do that part.

Just what the lady on the phone told me.

I was told they will ship it to terry and he installs it after McMillan inlets. My buddy ordered one and this is how they handled it and what I was told on the phone. Saves you from paying shipping again to terry.
