Hi all, thanks in advance for any help or insight that can be provided. I inherited this Remington 700 300 Win Mag and would love to know more about it. I am most curious about the barrel and if it is factory or aftermarket. There appear to be some smith markings though I am unfamiliar. The bolt was polished and had 1803 engraved in it. The stock was a McMillan which I could see had the recoil lug bedded.

Please see the photos below of the various markings as well as some measurements of the barrel. I have since had the barreled action cerakoted and it is in a MPA Ultralite chassis now.

The throat seems much deeper then SAAMI. Base to Ogive it likes Berger 210 VLD’s at 2.950-5. ( 10 thousands off the lands.

Tikkad,
If that barrel is original to the rifle, the assembly date code, DO, is Sept ‘77 or Sept ‘94. Does the SN have a letter prefix? 77 is likely A, not sure about ‘94, but maybe D or E. In any case, the markings look like original Remington.
My older REM 700’s have the last four of the rifle’s SN engraved on the bolt. Does that line up for yours? If a smith worked on it, then a different bolt may have been fitted.

Greg

Edit: I just noticed the S prefix for stainless. So now we can’t use that for 77 vs 94.

The bolt handle and shroud look to be newer than 77. The walker trigger says older than 2005 I think. The barrel looks to have factory markings but I have never seen one marked like that on the barrel inside the action, I don't think. Those marks on the outside are normal for factory barrel though.
