Help me decide on a new 300 WM rifle

I have decided that I am going to buy a 300 WM rifle for an elk hunt this fall. I have narrowed it down to the following 4 guns:

Savage 110 HS Precision
Savage 111 Long range hunter
Remington 5R
Remington PSS

In the end I want the most accurate gun with the least amount of required tweaking to get it to shoot to it's potential. I want a long range hunting gun that I can work with to extend my range with as my skills advance. I will use the gun after the hunt for some long range steel shooting also to perfect my skills. I don't mind lugging around extra weight if in the end I have a little more inherent accuracy. I will be mounting a Vortex 4-16 PST FFP scope in Burris signature rings on a Ken Ferrel base on this gun. I would like to shoot 190 to 215+ grain bullets from the gun. Let me know your thoughts.

I would choose the 5R of those 4 choices because at some time you might want to do some upgrading and in my opinion the Remington is more able to do that. Aftermarket support.

I am a fan of the PSS in 300WM, owned a few and they both shot well. If I recall, the Rem PSS has a faster twist rate than the 5R, 1/10 vs 1/11.25 IIRC. Both twist rates will handle the 190s but 1/10 is optimal for the heavies. Take a look at aftermarket parts availability, Remington is the chevy 350 of rifles with tons of aftermarket parts. Savage makes a great out of the box rifle but there are fewer options for aftermarket parts. If you have no intention to modify or build the rifle as you go, it makes little difference which you choose.

5r IMO but keep in mind .. A hunting rifle and a long range rifle are two different things. Mainly barrel length and weight.

You said you didn't mind lugging around extra weight. A 26" barrel is the general consensus of a "minimum" barrel length to take advantage of the 300wm magnum cartridge.

Also like Kirk said depends what bullet you want to shoot. 1:10 vs 1:11.25 for the 190
Vs heavier. My personal choice would be 200+ grain but that's because I have a 260 and a 308 and want to shoot a heavier bullet. I use my other rifles to shoot lighter bullets.

Id choose the 5r for the stainless action , its alot smoother cycling than the pss .also i think the 5r rifles have the barrels threaded already so you can just screw on a Badger fte mini on there . The stainless barrel will be easier to clean than the pss barrel also . Ive had both but prefer the stainless features of the 5r.
