Help Me Decide

I have that itch again. I can't decide what I want to do. I currently have an AI MKIII chambered in 6.5X47. It's probably my favorite rifle. It's extremely easy to shoot and load for. I would like something a little more manageable for hunting and shooting steel for fun. I was thinking a Bartlein CF barrel and a more traditional style stock. I was toying with the idea of just sticking with 6.5X47 or maybe 6BR. My hunting is primarily done in the Texas Hill Country where deer are the size of dogs, so either would do well. I have heard the 6BR can be a pain to feed. Any other suggestions out there?

I used to hunt hogs in the San Antonio/Boerne area with a 6.5 Grendel. I'm thinking about rechambering for 6 ARC...

I’m debating doing a light weight burner in 6 creedmoor. Proof carbon wrapped barrel (Bartlein would also work), manners composite stock, defiance or bighorn action and trigger tech diamond. Lightweight rig, speedy round, minimal to no real recoil, multi-role capability. Trade off is barrel life (1300-1600 rounds depending if you hotrod them) and to some extent, marginal cost for the carbon/composite stuff. I’d run it suppressed using either my 762 QDC or Arbiter...

I have had a few different 6.5 Creedmoors. Don't get me wrong, they have been plenty accurate but nothing like the 6.5X47. How are the little 6 Creedmoors as far as tuning?

Good question, I’ve no real experience with the cartridge but my buddies seem to really like it. They shoot factory ammo for the most part.

I like your thought process. If you build it on a Bighorn/Zermatt action, that gives you the option of swapping bolt heads, so you can get prefit barrels in virtually any caliber that will fit into a short action. I think plenty of guys are feeding 6BR with no issues, but I don’t have any experience with it in my Bighorn.

I was going to use an Impact action, so no swapping bolt heads. I am really leaning 6.5X47 again. I have plenty of brass and can run 123 pills if I am chasing speed.

6 Creedmoor is as easy to tune as any other caliber I've had. (For me)

If you're going for weight savings for hunting, Defiance's new AnTi action is pretty neat. Skeletonized Stainless steel. Something worth checking out.
