Help with building a new AR-15 upper

Guys I am building one more AR. The lower is built. Now I am working on the upper in .223. I want to use the build for mostly varmint/predator hunting and some target shooting out to 300 yards. I don't want a huge barrel. I was thinking about a 16" or 20" target heavy barrel. I want to be able to shoot 50gr to 69gr.

What length barrel and twist would be best? I would like to try and stay with a 16" to keep it a bit more compact.

18-20" RRA varmint upper is a good choice!

if your your buling in upper, check out White Oaks Armament, id say anything between 18-20" with a 1:8 twist would get the job done! (1:8 will allow you to shoot 55gr-80gr)

heck yes! someone finally gave me a +1!

thinking of building my father a target AR with a WOA match upper/barrel! was hoping they could do .243 (so i shot em a email today) but if not a good ol' .223 will get the job done out to 500 yards!

heck if it shoots better then my bushmaster varminter maybe ill get a WOA barrel/upper too haha!

Anyone know if WOA is backlogged like everyone else?

I really wanted to do an 18" build but I am having a hard time finding one that isn't way over priced.

I have the SPR 18" and the REECE 16"
We shoot out to 650m with the 75-77gt match.
The 16" is a better platform IMO.

I called to order a barrel, they told be they were not taking any new orders until they could catch up a bit

weird i just got an email today saying call to order one and that its a 16-22 week wait

I really like my 16" 1/7 med-con barrel from SuperiorBarrels. Very accurate, seems extremely durable, though I'll probably never test it to its capability. The guys at Superior are also top notch and will help you with anything you need-
