My 26xxx is a pre-A. Look at the S/N. Winchester incorporates the Model # in the S/N as a prefix or a sufix I.E. Axxxxx or xxxxxxA. Donald

this must also be a pre "A" in that there is no letter in the serial # also has marbles sights and says on the receiver patenet applied for.??

If there is no letter in the serial number, generally these are referred to as 'pre-a' actions.
Another easy way to spot early guns is the safety. On the early guns, it is on the left side of the action, near the rear. On B and later guns, it is on the right side, in front of the bolt handle.
