Henderson Trimmer scoring necks

Looking for advice. I am using a gen 3 Henderson trimmer, have been for a while. For some reason I just started getting some scoring lines on the inside of the neck after I trim them. You can see in the picture, they aren’t just surface marks, you can feel them if you run something over them. Anyone else run into this? Do I just need a new pilot?

AFAIK, this artifact is a well-known issue with using pilot-trimmers like the forster etc. Why giraud and WFT et al index off the shoulder. Google should show many results/discussions....Whether or not it matters or not is eye of beholder ("design flaw" etc).

Id spin it in some 0000 steel wool myself.

I had that issue with an rcbs manual which is why I’ve never considered the Henderson. Spinning stuff in the neck can lead to these issues.
No real way to rectify it in the brass if it’s a big gouge other than neck turning but that’s a can of worms I’d rather not deal with. Shoot it and see if it causes a detriment that you can’t live with.

Try cleaning and polishing pilot. I use 1000 sandpaper and then Flitz metal polish. Lube inside case necks with your desired product before trimming.

I ran into the same issue. I have a Henderson. Basically a Henderson setup with a harbor freight motor. The issue was that the pilot guide on the 3 way cutter was oversized and then the mandrel that the cutting head attached to had a slight bit of run out.

Weirdly enough, the runout has not affected the consistency of the cutting length, the chamfer, or the deburr. I ended up taking a file and grinding down the pilot head slightly. Then polishing it up.

For me this only happened with the 300 PRC cases. I have. No issues with the other cases like 223, 6.5 Creed, 6 Creed, etc.

Here you go. 6.5 pilot next to the .30 cal for comparison. You can see where I tapered it down to about 0.250" on the .30 cal pilot.

I don't have this issue with all calibers. I haven't shot and realized the 300PRC brass yet, I was only shooting virgin brass so it could be the case necks were right.

Regardless, it trims and does all 3 functions well now.
