The email issued mentioned earlier this week is now fixed! You may also have received previous emails that were meant to be sent over the last few days - apologies, this was a one time issue and shouldn't happen again!

Here's a likely short thread, are there any politicians that you knew/kinda liked and wish they would have gone further in their career aspirations?

Being the contrarian that I am- I figured I'd ask an arguably inverse type of question than that's found most often in the Pit.

Instead of lamenting on how lousy our elected officials are (not that I disagree with that sentiment either), just wanted to ask have you known/met/ a politician that for whatever reason just didn't go far enough? Someone you thought had the chops for something bigger but for one reason or another stopped (maybe because they just had the good sense to get out of the game)?

I think there's a few I can think of that I thought should have aspired to running to higher offices but likely were smart enough to not do so.

One of the names that comes to my mind, and in full disclosure I do have a small bias, but from PA, I'd honestly have to say Tom Ridge.

To explain my bias- I briefly knew one of his children and also was able to meet the man several times. To my memory/recollection, that aside, I felt like he did a lot of good things as his time as Governor in PA. My memory may be overly rosy with who we had as Governor since his time (not even bothering to mention their names).

That said, I always thought he was capable of achieving further notoriety and would have done so had it not been for 9/11 and his appointment to the newly formed Homeland Security Department that has been a... shall I say rightfully controversial department (at least in my opinion) ever since it came into existence.

Don't suppose anyone else can think of a politician they hoped would go further and had they done so would have left a more positive impact on government than the folks that advanced instead?

Not that they wouldn't try but Rand Paul or Thomas Massie for President as I feel they have common sense or at least believe and support the Constitution.

    Not one of you??

He was pretty boring on the Hodgetwins podcast. Also, isn't he trying to get back into congress?

I had hoped he died already….

Literally did not know he was still around. Assumed he kicked the bucket years ago. Oh well…

My post above is why we really need a sarcasm font around here…

Oh, I got your sarcasm and even though I knew he was still alive, I didn't know he was still relevant until I saw him on this podcast.

Back in 2022, I wanted Darren Bailey to win the governor’s race against JB Prickster. Chicagoland is so fucking dumb and that’s why he lost. He’s a farmer and comes from a conservative Christian family background.

When JB and his bitches passed an AWB, Bailey gave a strong statement.

I'd wished Fred Thompson would have got the nomination in 2008, not that it likely would have mattered, the fix was probably in.
Interesting you being that name up .
Halfway liked him - I do remember his presidential aspirations were killed when a years old video of him in Los Vegas from security cameras showed him gambling and talking to cocktail waitresses. Gasp how awful I know .

But the point that came up about him earlier in a conversation- if 10-15 year old footage of him gambling and drinking in Vegas still exists - why no footage of the Vegas shooter and his fbi handlers?
