So I built some 48” drawers under my bed and am looking at installing/making some type of hidden lock for the ones with guns in them. I’ve seen electronic ones but would rather some type of manual one. My initial thought is a piece of steel rod with a spring inside a piece of pvc recessed in the bed frame. I could possibly use a rare earth magnet to hold the pin open. Anybody built anything similar that might have some suggestions? The top of the bed will be covered with solid sheeting once finished.

I built two hidden rooms in my last two houses. Both behind custom door-sized bookcases with a "secret book"
I used a standard door latch with a piece of cable (off a bicycle brake). When the hinged book was pulled back with your finger, the cable pulled across the small pulley and pulled on the end of the latch, releasing the "door".

You could accomplish the same, might be easier to mount the latch in the bottom of the frame, the striker plate on the bottom of the drawer.
just attach a cable, use a light spring (or gravity) to keep tension on it.

A tiny hole (option) and a long skinny screwdriver (end cut off) could push on the mechanism that holds the cable.
