High mileage Buckmark reliability upgrades?

I love my Buckmark. In fact, it may be the most fun gun I have, and that is quite the statement.

That said, this gun has seen some use. I bought it used with an unknown round count a couple years back. It saw somewhere between 5k and 10k rounds before I added some Tac Sol components. It's seen maybe another 5k-10k rounds since then, and the reliability is no longer what it once was. At some point along the line, it got picky with ammo (it used to eat everything, now it prefers CCI ammo.)

Since my Sparrow has cleared about 2k rounds ago, it hasn't had a misfeed or FTE that I can recall. But it has had a number of light primer strikes. Close to 1 per magazine, which suggests that it isn't the ammo.

I'm looking for solutions on what to replace to get this pistol back where it was. Is it possible my firing pin has shortened some from so many cycles and needs to be replaced? I'm sure some springs need to be replaced, which ones?

Thanks a bunch!

Jesse,

I know you mentioned the firing pin spring before, but as a reminder, this gun is jot striker fired, this spring I believe only prevents slam fires.

OH well shows you what I know, then may be the main spring is weak causing you to have light hammer falls. Or it could just be dirt in there slowing down the hammer. I would tear it down to the main spring and see what you got.

Check the tension on the sight rail/top cover.
That and fouling from running suppressed have been what makes my Buckmark hiccup.
It appears to reduce slide velocity and will eject a spent case but not reset the hammer fully.
YMMV

</div></div>I had issues with the sight rail. This Tac Sol sight rail tends to loosen up. This time I used a big squirt of blue locktite and the screw doesn't seem to be coming out.

Also- it should be noted that I was having more problems before the suppressor than with it, so the suppressor doesn't seem to be the issue.

Re: High mileage Buckmark reliability upgrades?

Never updated this thread. So here is the update: I ordered a bunch of parts, turns out my recoil spring was the culprit. It wasn't reliably fully returning the slide to battery, meaning the hammer would finish it, causing a light strike. Replacing it (I ordered a whole guide rod assembly) fixed the issues. Failure rate has gone from 15-20% to around 2%. Good thing, because Browning no longer makes firing pins for pre '98 Buckmarks.

On mine there is a little plastic thingy at the rear of the top spring (called a buffer)that disintegrated and I had to replace it. That is the only issue I have had with mine.
