Hello.

I am looking to replace the Leupold Mark 6 1-6x20mm M6C1 riflescope I have on my SCAR 17 with a high powered crème de la crème German or Austrian tactical police/military type riflescope by Schmidt & Bender, Kahles, or Hensoldt. I already own scopes by Zeiss, FN, Trijicon, Leupold, Meopta, and Primary Arms Platinum Series. Here are the givens:

- Who I am: A civilian. I am not an "operator"
- My budget: $2,500 to $3,800
- Barrel: 20-inch Krieger, SS, match grade, single-point, cut-rifled, fluted, .775” in outer diameter, 5R rifling, 1:10” RH rifling twist, unsuppressed.
- Ammo: ABM .308 Win 175gr Berger Match OTM Tactical
- Paper target distance: 200 to 800 yards
- Lowest magnification: 4, 5, or 6 x
- Highest magnification: 25x
- Max objective diameter: ~56 mm
- Eye relief: ~3.5"
- Tube size: 34 mm
- Must have features: excellent warranty, matte black finish, Mil dot, FFP, illuminated reticle, and right-sided windage turret since I am a left-handed shooter
- Nice to have features: clockwise locking turret(s)

So far, I came across the following models:

- Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25x56 L/P DT H2CMR FFP MRAD CW (SKU: 677-911-922-94-67) $3,200
- Kahles K624i 6-24x56 LSW CCW SKMR (SKU: 10612) $2,999
- Hensoldt ZF 4-16x56 FF LT CCW Mil (SKU: HZF041656-BHMRL1L1) $2,499

Notes: My understanding is Kahles K624i riflescope offers the best solution if we compare price and quality. If we compare it with S&B PMII 5-25x56 then K624i offers wider field of view on minimal magnification. The S&B PMII has a stronger tunnel effect than the K624i. There is also big difference in delivery time. All S&B riflescopes are custom made and therefore need 14-16 weeks to be manufactured. Delivery time for Kahles rifle scopes is 2-3 weeks.

So, based on the above, which high powered riflescope would you personally buy? Please note that the three models I listed above are only examples. I am flexible and would consider U.S. brands such as NightForce and Vortex as long as it is not earth brown in color.

Thank you.

Why would anyone care about average atmospheric conditions where you live? Or the mfg part number of the ammo you shoot?

"More Tactical Clicks"? WTF

Anyway, sounds like you got it all figured out with your research.

308, Why do you need to come off like such a Douche Bag?
Sounds like to me (he) i assume has done the home work and has asked a very informative question and you give this reply. WTF . How about you reply with some real world experience like....
Hey Bud i have been running a S&B for years and have been very happy with it. Well worth the money in my experience....
And on the MTC from experience if you are working in the dark and decide to dial rather than hold the MTC are nice to know where you are at....
Just my Opinion....

Putting on SCAR, might want to look at weight, length? maybe vortex AMG. (lightweight, plenty of magnification).. possibly scoop up SB US5-20 on sale?

Throw Minox into equation as well.. whatever you do end up with, consider warranty, and length of warranty due to SCAR being not so friendly on optics. high end should be fine, but don't take the chance.

went down this road this past week for optic on large frame AR and went with B17 from USO / H102 reticle.

I feel that my S&B 3-12x50 PMII MTC turrets, P4 reticle, is the perfect magnification and scope size on my GAP AR10. I experimented with a few bigger scopes with higher magnification and I have found that it is a PITA having big scopes on an AR15/AR10 platform. I have no problems hitting targets and shooting just as tight of groups as anyone else in long range competitions out to 1000 yards using 12 power. The rifle is also very easy to manipulate and handle with the 3-12x50 PMII. Also great for deer hunting being able to throttle back to 3 power when the need arises.

Hello Sir. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction. I will throw out an option to consider: a S&B 3-20x50. I run this scope on my gas gun (GAP-10) and absolutely love it to the moon. Note, it’s not the ultra short, just a PMII 3-20. The things I like are that it’s a bit shorter, which I find handier and better looking on a gas gun, and there is less tunneling than with my 5-25. I also think the power range is great. I generally run my 5-25 at about 18-20 anyway, so the 3-20 is plenty of magnification. I don’t have a single complaint about the scope. I often go back and forth on it or my 5-25 being my favorite. Usually comes down to whichever one I’m shooting is my favorite that day. I haven’t spent quite as much time on it as I have my 5-25, but that’s just because I haven’t had it as long. Just an opinion from a guy that has both and can objectively compare them.

I'd be looking at Tangent Theta TT315M 3-15X50. I think this is a very good configuration for a SCAR. Then again, I tend to go for lower magnification than most people.

Most higher end brands will do fine, so make sure you really go over the reticles to see what works for you.

As far as turrets go, I think Tangent Theta has the best turrets on the market at the moment.

Starting with this general size/configuration, I also like Minox ZP5 3-15x50 and Nightforce ATACR F1 4-16x42 though I preferred TT315M in a side by side comparison.
