I currently have and love my LMT MWS. I have bartlein barrels spun up for it and they shoot amazing. I am very happy with everything lmt, except the weight. I am looking to build a lighter weight super accurate setup. I was going to go the Aero Precision route with their m5 enhanced uppers. I really like the idea of having the handguard bolt directly to the upper. I really think this has to do with the consistency I see with the LMT. I have never seen the accuracy and consistency I get out of the LMT out of a platform where the handguard mounts to the barrel nut and a thin upper reciever.

I am starting the question the overall quality of Aero Precision parts after reading some reviews and seeing some of the parts in person. I am looking to build a rifle with the quality of an LMT but lighter weight. I really like Knights armament ECC's, but I am not willing to spend over 5k on it at this time. LMT sells lowers, is there a quality upper other than LMT MWS that would fit the lower? I looked at the Noveske N6 receiver sets, and they are really nice but it goes back to the barrel nut mounting directly to the thin upper receiver. I looked at seekins, but not really a fan of the triangular handguards.

Thought about the larue UU kits and then spinning up a bartlein for it, but i just don't feel they are on the same level as LMT and Knights. I already have a spare LMT BCG I am ready to drop into this new build and can spin up a bartlein whenever. The question is no, what receiver set would put me in the quality range of LMT? I just feel like the Aero enhance upper with an LMT BCG and Bartlein barrel would be like putting a corvette engine in a prius.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Aero is good stuff, but not great. If you’re expecting LMT quality then you’re going to be disappointed.

If I was wanting a lighter large frame I’d go with the Seekins builder set and a Proof CF barrel.

A large frame is still going to be a little on the heavy side though compared to AR15’s. Shave too much weight off of it and it’s not going to shoot as well.

You might want to consider just a KAC upper on your LMT lower.

Not sure what MWS uppers and barrels you have, but the Mlok receiver and one of the new lightweight profile barrels will shed a good bit of weight.

My 16" lmt with picatinny is same weight as my aero build. also, per both websites, lmt and kac weights are upside down.

Aero is fine quality, nothing wrong with them but no, not lmt

If you want lightweight you want the 2a Armament Xanthos, followed by the V7 Harbinger. Nothing else comes close, and both companies make great handguards too.

But if accuracy was my goal I'd get a Seekin's.

Well from what I've seen/heard you can be <1moa no problem. Thing is once you start applying a lot of force to the handguard you will shift POI (the more force, the more shift). Supposedly the same is true of all uppers, the thinner they are the more shift you see. It is generally pretty subtle (like the FPS difference between prone and standing) so most do not notice it at all. If weight is a priority I'd go 2a right now until V7 comes out with their Lithium-Alloy AR10 receivers (which isn't happening for a while I've been told). Or even just go and buy an F4 Defense small-frame AR10.

If you are chasing every last .1moa you can, get the Seekins receiver set and build on that.

It's not quite as much of a problem with the large frame stuff as with the AR15's. There's no "spec" on them like AR15 receivers and most of them tend to be thick walled. With the lightweight receivers, yes, you reduce material, you're going to get more flex.

I would stay away from a true "lightweight" large frame for more reasons than just receivers flexing though. If it's a battle type rifle then a light 308 is going to suck for shot placement, if its a precision rifle it's going to be harder to shoot, and if it's a hunting rifle where a lightweight rifle may be very beneficial then there are honestly better choices than a large frame gasser.
