High quality soft bag?

Personally, whatever you get, think about your transport first. Like, for me, how wide is my
SUV?

Because I bought some 58” soft bags and then found out that they didn’t fit sideways. Had to put them in at an angle or lengthwise, which sucks if I have a full car or lots of gear in the back.

For my 4runner, a ~55” case is the max to fit sideways.

Anyway:

TL;DR
For just one case: Buy an AIM 55” bag and use just one of the backpack straps as a shoulder strap. It fits most of my rifles with a 9” suppressor attached.

Armageddon Precision Rifle 52” case is awesome for shorter guns but internally thin (can’t leave most bipods attached), and may not be tall enough if you like high scope mounts. (See below for pics if the two zipper types-long and short. Long one will accept Atlas Cal attached.)

Bulldog 54” BDT80-54T Long Range Rifle Case is conceptually awesome but more cheaply made (zippers, shoulder strap connection, non-welded d-rings). It’s still made pretty well. If it was an inch longer and Armageddon made it, it would be pretty perfect. Maybe add another big pocket.

Follow my link to links to these cases.

Good point. Is this a problem with basic atlas/harris or just bigger bipods like WB-5, Cyke, Elite iron etc?
Ok, so I forgot Armageddon made (or makes?) two slightly different version of their case. One with a full-length zip and one with a half-zip.

I asked and they made the full-length zips for me, but I swear I remember them saying they were replacing all the half-zip with full-zip. But their site doesn’t mention the zipper length, and they removed pics showing the main zipper? Ask em.

Anyway the rifle below is almost 11” tall, scope turret to grip. 10.5” to 10.75”- ish.

KRG W3 chassis, atlas Cal, 1.5” tall scope mount., Razor G2.

Nope. Doesn’t fit the 52” half-zip.

Barely fits the 52” full-zip. See the waviness of the zip? Maxed out.

For cost and how well they’ve held up I really like the midwayusa drag bag. Think the 50” is like $110 right now. There’s a 42” and 56” I believe as well. Mine are over 10 years old so like anything else quality may be different now. I replace all the zipper strings they send with paracord as those rip off right away

I have a savior I use for most AR stuff I really like to.

I also have a tacops drag bag if you want to go more expensive. Really nice bag. Built in shooting mat. They do group buys once in a while here. Those are like $300 I think

Cabella's bag is $79 ... Armageddon bag is $500+. I just don't see the need to spend $500+ on a soft bag. If I'm beating up my rifles enough to need that, I should go to jail for "Bag Abuse".
Armageddon Precision Rifle case is $255. If you find it at Brownells, you can get free shipping sometimes.

The 58” version is $220 from Brownellls. Don’t see the 52” at this time.

AG does make some similarly named but way more $$$ cases. Perhaps you got them mixed up?

Also, Brownells carries the Bulldog case for $90 if you don’t like the Cabela’s zipper pulls or if you want tan. Also get a forever warranty with Brownells, not sure about Cabela’s.

As I mentioned before, for a range bag the Bulldog’s design is best and near perfect for me. If only it was better made, ~1” longer, and had a larger rear pocket instead of that flat thing. It’s not poorly made, but it’s just not up to snuff compared to the USA made AG with YKK zips and real Cordura (edit: and welded d-rings).

My only prob with Savior is the ones I’ve handled weigh a ton. Maybe not all of them do?

Do they come in a ~55”-56” length? The ones I’ve seen are either about 51” or 61”.

Triad Tactical also makes what seems to be a nice USA made drag bag, but it tops out at 52” length.

My Rem700 26” barrel in a KRG W3 with a 9” suppressor on it fits in a 55” AIM bag, and the AIAT w/24” barrel and TBAC Dominus (~7”) can on it fits the 54” Bulldog (barely…this is dependent on how many butt spacers you run).

Not sure why the more premo bag manufacturers don’t factor transport with a can attached? First world probs bro lol

I think it’s a 50”. Vudoo tactical makes a longer one that I have. Think 56”

I personally would buy two cheaper bags. One for AR and one for long guns. Keep gear separate but also you’re not hauling a bag twice the size of the rifle around

My AIAT with 20” 308 barrel and TBAC ultra 9 fit perfectly in my tac ops bag.

For my other AIAT I run longer barrels like my 28” 260 barrel. That one I use QD TBAC brake and remove the 338 ultra I use on that when I transport

Yeah, I’m tracking that removal idea. Just rather not do it. Might get boxed in, regardless, as the Magnus SR can is 9.7” long…(future purchase, maybe).

One question I have to ask, is about the folding version of the w3 stock.

Does that help at all for real world transit? Or is it more problems than it might seem at first? I've seen folded stocks be a bit bulkt and hard to put into backpacks for hunting, and they don't always protect the optic/eyepiece all that well, etc.

This is a really useful example below, however.. w3 with a Razor and NV standard 1.5 mount running a 56 objective. Alot of guys running non-folding KRGs with Vortex's and similar size bipods.

Folding stocks, in my experience, don’t really offer soft case transport advantages unless you mount your scope far forward enough so that the ocular isn’t the rear-most bit of your gun.

Otherwise, like you said, when it’s in the pack it on your back it’s the bottom thing your rifle is resting on. Or if you are carrying it horizontally and bump the rear of the bag, you could smack your scope.

AIM makes two drag bags meant for folding rifles, one for left folding, and one for right folding. If your scope is mounted far forward enough, I think those would work. However, for me with a long suppressor attached, they are still not long enough.

The main advantage for a folding stock for me is it’s easier to clean the bore as I don’t have to remove the cheekpiece. And on the AIAT, for example, even removing the cheekpiece isn’t enough for the cleaning rod to clear the butt pad as it sticks up. I have to sort of bend the rod a little to get the rod handle over that butt pad.

Anyway, none of my bags fit a folding rifle. Although I can’t remember if I can fit one in the bulldog when folded. That’s the widest case I have. But it doesn’t matter as my scope ocular hangs too far back.

Expensive, but well thought out and great quality:

Yeah, they are nice, but made in Asia (I checked with AIM). I own the 55”. However, MH is jacking the prices way up. The 55” is £205 on AIM’s UK site, and $330 on MH.

Current change rate would make it $260.

The USA made Armageddon Gear bags are better made. (Edit: as probably are the TacOps and Triad Tactical. I just don’t own those).

Surprised no one mentioned Voodoo drag bags. They are my favs. Though it looks like they discontinued their 60" bags - better take good care of the one I've got for my thumper.

For $200, I think I’ve settled on the 55” savior LRP Case. Also comes in smaller sizes

If you want a decent bag at a cheap price the Midway USA drag bag is a pretty decent. I have a couple, and they work. Normally I transport in a Pelican case. If money isn’t an issue I agree on the Armageddon bag, they make great gear.

Have the shorter PRB before they discontinued it. Not cheap, but it's no $500 either. They seem to be missing the longer TCC bags as an option as well. Which is weird because the 30" will not fit 16" barreled rifles. Hope it is just temporary.
I do plan on picking up a second PRB though.
