Which brings me to another arbitrary shot in the dark number that is neck tension. Unless you are using a force pack arbor press you have only an idea of actual neck tension. And even then do we know if the force to seat a bullet is the same as the force to push it out?

We have one process that we cant accurately measure (annealing) to facilitate a result on another process that we cant accurately measure (neck tension).

Sounds more like skilled luck than science.

Because its not an actual measurment of tension. Depending on the neck wall thickness, brass composition, and % annealed or hardness. The actual tension a case has on the projectile varies, even at the same physical pin guage measurement.

A pin guage is just another tool for quality control and consistency.

I started with torch and drill. Supposed it worked well enough but unsure about its consistency and results. A fellow member sold me his Bench Source and I feel it was a good move. Time savings for sure. Has to be more consistent than previous. No regrets.

Because I was losing too much sleep over this subject, I bought an AMP machine. Now I pass out soon as my head hits the pillow. No clue how much more effective it is compared to drill + torch method I was using. But it's 100% effective at helping me sleep.

That's how my dad taught me except he always put the cases in water about half way up the body and just dim the lights and knock them into the water as they change color

This^^^ and the Eric Cortina video got me started... I chuck my little doo-dad in my lathe and run it at low RPM's and run my torch with the lights off.
