HK 417 Optic Question

Hey, so I’m trying to throw some glass on my HK 417 Ar-10 style rifle. I have been seriously looking at an acog or elcan.

Acog questions: anyone shooting a .308 with an acog?
I have heard that i only want to get the 3.5 mag because the eye relief is an inch further out then on the 4x

I would rather have 4x mag but I hear it is easy to get scope bite and that its a hard to keep the picture open.

Reticle, I was thinking red chevron, I figure red will stand out the most on various backdrops then the other colors. And the chevron seems like it will cover less of my target then the donut or others...

Elcan specter DR, i really like the 1.5x/6x but I’ve never seen one in person and 2500 is a lot of money.

Opinions from other .308 shooters?

why not a NF 1-4, Vortex 1-6, NF 2.5-10, Leupold Mk6 1-6, CQBSS 1-8. Plenty of good choices out there to not limit yourself to a fixed power 3.5 optic or a Elcan with a known zero shift

Good point, it seems like the acog would be better for close up but still give me some "reach". I guess the NF would be similar in all reality though...
two other thoughts:

Acog i have heard is a lot better for low light; and more durable?
