Whether SBR or with brace, would this be the best section of the forum to ask questions? I’m looking to find a Zenith zr5 or whatever the right description is. 8” threaded barrel with brace. I’m not looking to spend $4000 on this. But what’s the best clone? How does the PTR mp5 clone stand with the zenith. I can’t find a Zenith so that’s probably not worth looking for. What does anyone else have to say?

Guys are getting the new SP5 for 2300 so they are not that much different than the clones at around 1800. I have no experience with the clones but have two HKs- the new one and and SP5K and they are amazing! They have turned into my favorite guns to shoot actually. I would look around and get the actual HK and probably get one for around 2200 if you get lucky.

hahaha, 2200?? is this your way of bragging? please show me where you can find these for 2200?

Go with the Zenith over anything else. 2nd would be a POF. Both of which can be found on Gunbroker right now.

I picked up this Zenith ZR5S along with an SB tactical brace for $1700 off GunsAmerica last summer. (2018) you may have to but the brace separate but you should still be able to find both for under $2K.

ok, you now have the SP5 in the mix, I got one coming in. But i have 4 Dakota Tacticals - MP5. MP5/10, MP5SD and MP5RS (reverse stretch) plus a MP5K (converted professionally from a SP5K) --- the DTs are awesome - Joe will refinish any DT at his cost.

The issue with the SP5 is HK had to modify them so if you plan to add a genuine C&P trigger pack or run a full auto sear you have some mods to do - DTs all come ready for that. The DT are better finished BTW ...

I got my SP5K for 2200 with literally two minutes of google searching a few months ago and over on HKpro I read literally about 50 posts of guys getting the new one for 2300 and some less. Dealer cost is low from I gathered, so if you are a good customer with an FFL find one who will not jack the price up to 3k! Clones seem to go for around 1800 and HK for 22-2300. Sure some guys are paying the 3k now but that is excessive for sure and I prob. would not get the HK over the clone for that price difference. HK is also releasing the SP5K with the paddle mag release and tri lug soon, so prices will drop.

When news of the HK SP5 was released, I questioned my biggest distributor about the possibility of scoring one. My sales rep there - a really good guy - said I was about his 30th inquiry that day. He said the chance of getting an SP5, if you weren't an annual high six-figure customer, was at present not going to happen.

MSRP on the HK SP5 is $2799. When the SP5 was first released, their selling prices on GB were in the $3300-$3500 range. Already, the final prices have dropped to under $3K. I think we'll see them going for MSRP or even less soon.

Same here, they haven't had a Sp5k come through in 6 months, 258 backorders. They are seeing some Sp5's arrive but limited numbers. Any dealers selling for $2300 are making good money. $3000 is butt rape.

I really like the Dakota for a clone. Nothing wrong with PTR but the Dakota is really nice. If you are interested in semi only then the SP5 is going to be really nice. If there is a sear in your future go with a Dakota

I wouldn't really consider a POF a clone, since its made on HK licensed tooling by a factory that makes legit military MP5s. If anything, the SP5 is less of a true MP5 because of the rear sight drum and the lack of a front pin. The only difference between a POF and a true MP5 is the receiver fence/semiauto carrier, and no select fire capability, so they're about the closest you can get-it even has "MP5" stamped on it.

But yeah, I'd go with either a Zenith of POF before the HK, especially if you want it to shoot and not sock away to sell later. The HK just has a nicer finish and the HK name.
