There is a big difference between Chevrolet and Lamborghini’s. Big diff between Timex and a Rolex. Same for Cooper and Savage. They will all get the job done tho.
Why are the HK MR556 priced so high. I know HK quality, and reputation. But what makes them anywhere near their sale price. I would love to have one but damn thats a chunk for an “AR”!!

I own HK 223 A3 and here in Europe it was 2.5k slightly used. 3.2k new but unavailable, nowdays 3.4k.

My friend has an LMT.

Both very nice rifles. The LMT does not yet have a lot through it but runs well with flow through suppressor.

My HK has 15k+ on it and while the first CL barrel was amazing out to 12k, it started to degrade after that.

Have not changed any parts except the gas port actual gas port to fit the almost completely (legacy) suppressed shooting I do.

MY HK is more precise and is a bit heavier, mostly due to the big barrel which heats up quite a bit slower than the LMT. The LMT was quite bad with accuracy but it improved a lot when it had the suppressor on. The HK is maybe a teeny tiny bit more precise with suppressor on, but my other suppressor did worsen it slightly.

Both are reliable. Apart from the problems I had with my gassing from the first winter I had it (I ended up reducing buffer weight but it later might have been the gas port that was carbon locked to misbehave) I have not had a single malfunction and did last winter shoot the gun at -11F succesfully without suppressor.

The LMT so far seems to have one problem. Whereas I bought the HK with the 12" handguard, the LMT came with one too. I replaced mine with 14" so I could work with the stuff I have on the rifle but my buddy is doomed to have no space to properly install his to a pig mount or have adequate space in the rail for good hand placement which really eats up the positive sides the rifle has.

So get yours with enough handguard to begin with.

I do plan on buying LMT MARS in 6.5CM since HK does not make one and it looks like it has no faults in it. The HK over here is 4.4k for G28 and the LMT is 4.9k but is on sale for 4k at the moment.

My HK MR556A1 was purchased in 2015. No $$ regrets; the gun was inexpensive in the day, the optics and mount$ hurt.
It has been a great gun, pretty accurate out to 600 meters.

I have enjoyed the consistency of my MR556. Yes, it is heavy, but rock solid. I run a Huxwrx Flow 556k w 77g ammo. 1000rds w no cleaning was no different from 1000rds with 250 intervals. Joy to shoot. Is it better than my LMT MARS-L w 13.25 upper (Surefire SOCOM Mini-2), don’t think so, but it is not worse, just different. I prefer the results here when cleaning more w a fair amount of oil on the LMT. Using same ammo (IMI 77g RC or BH MK262 Mod1) with both from 25-600yds, I prefer the “snappiness” of the LMT short range, but the more stable HK from 300-600yds. Both rifles have an NX8 1-8x24/FC-DMx LPVO and Atlas PSR bipod. They both shoot way better than me! Completely happy w both, but different feels and ergos. My replacement of the CQB MARS upper w the 13.25 made a huge difference in terms of optionally at longer (relative to a 16” .556) distances. Enjoy your MR556A1!

You answered your own question, HK reputation and reliability.

Most of my "regular" AR-15 builds run between $1800 - $2500, using the components I select.

The MR556 isn't "just an AR" it is an extremely well engineered Piston AR that will pretty much out shoot any AR on the market. The fit and finish is the highest quality on the market and the BCG is a work of machining art compared to "regular" AR's. Funny that you don't hear about many MR556's not working or having quality issues. Can't say the same about other brands, LMT being the best example.

But all things considered, they aren't that expensive, unless you're comparing them to a $700 PSA, which isn't their competition.

Look at what Radian charges for their rifles. How many .MIL contracts do they hold across the globe?

I had to do a double check to see if my browser somehow went through a wormhole to r/Hecklerkoch...

I have a couple, I have not been disappointed in them. They are not my favorite AR, but they are my favorite piston AR.

They aren't worth their sale price is the problem. Very reliable. Very accurate barrels. But not worth the massive premium especially for the current US model.

If you really want one, I'd either look into building a newer variant from the ground up or holding off for a year or two to see if we get the updated ambi models with the new HK USA branch expansion.

That all said, I built my own 416 several year ago for around 1500 bucks using a mix of actual 416 parts and US made parts. It was very cool, shot well, and the recoil was far less than people make it out to be. I ended up selling it for a large profit but I regret it. I'd buy another one if they would sell the up to date models and for under $3k.
