Thought I would share my project from yesterday.

Thanks to Texaslawman (lonestarboars)'s YouTube video, I put together 3x 30gal hog barrel feeders. Gonna put these on the river side of the ranch around 3 different blinds to see if I can get the hogs to spend a little more time and give more opportunity for a shot.

I'll follow up with more pics when I get them set out and update how the hogs react to them.

Always wanted to try this. interested in how well it works. I am sure that there is a couple days or even weeks for them to figure it out but after that it may be game on.

Yes I believe he encourages baiting the area when you set them out initially, but when they figure out there's more corn in there they'll roll them until they pass out then wake up and keep going.

So I got my barrel set up about a week ago. It’s about 20 ft from the feeder, hooked to a running post I also put in and I filled it wil about a half bag of corn.

Hogs haven’t touched it.

I also poured pancake syrup on it and bait all around it to help get them started.

Any advice? They are still regularly hitting the feeder, haven’t touched the barrel.

Hmm. Did you put anything on the corn inside the barrel? Like big and J's or Hog Wild?

And the hole is big enough for corn to come out of?

That's really weird...

My unedumakated suggestion would be to not run a lot of corn through the deer feeder. kind of short them so they look for another food source (the barrel) instead of them filling up on whats being thrown on the ground and easily accessible.

I didn’t put anything on the corn in the barrel. That was going to be my next step. I had thought about putting fermented corn in there but wasn’t sure if it would end up stopping up the holes.

The holes are plenty big. I put two of them and corn comes out when I roll it.

I would do the big & J's pigs dig it and see if that works. Also moving the barrel a little big farther away from the feeder or turning the feeder down (less seconds feeding) to make sure it's not over feeding the area like mentioned above. We have cattle panel circles around our feeders so the hogs can't get to the feed thats spun out by the feeder. That's why I wanted to do the barrels so they would have somewhere to stop rather than cruising by the feeder pens.
