Holster for "battle Belt" For tac match?

Hey all,
Im rigging up a HSGI sure grip belt with suspenders for my sidearm (Kimber Custom 2), mags for it and pouches for my AICS mags amongst other stuff. For tac match and everything else. What holsters are you runnin? Also will be walking alot with it so it seems that a thigh rig might not be the best? Whats better? Quick draw capability or protection? Some tac holsters even have a flap. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

The serpa is a great option but you will definitely have to practice with it. I like my dsg arms holster now but I don't think it would mount to a battle belt.

I like the leg holster, if I am pulling a pistol it means I am about to get over run and killed and will be in a prone position with a smoking hot rifle next to me. This is my view and my 80's Army view on a combat (non officer side arm) of the purpose of a pistol. Then again back then if they didn't issue you one you could still bring your own. Get a leg holster and save the belt space for more magazine pouches.

I've tried alot of holsters and have settled on the Safariland ALS system of holsters. Order the Drop Hanger, can't remember if it was a 2 or 3" drop, but it is plenty to clear a loaded up war belt or full body armor carrier like a Cirrus/RAV, or plate carrier and cumberbund. The drop extension keeps it at about the same height I ran a thigh rig at-I wore thigh rigs as high as possible so they wouldn't shift on my leg or wiggle and slow me down when drawing. I love this solution because the ALS IS FAST AS FUCK, but very secure for running around and jumping over shit, and that setup gets it out of the way of your gear. The body of the holster comes up pretty high around the rear of your gun and protects the sights pretty well from impacts. It also takes up minimal space on your belt. I can get 1.08 a zone 7 yard hits with my M&P 9, or G17 with this setup. My buddy is down to .86 on his G17 and ALS. Perfect action sport, running around - type holster.

SERPA sucks. I tried to draw to engage a target one day and that fucking button would not release in time. Luckily things worked out for me, but I will never ever ever ever carry a Serpa again. If you are not in a perfect up and down position to draw from that deathtrap, it gets awful tough. Plus, my buddy Ed shot himself in the calf a few years ago with the damn Serpa. Fuck a goddam Serpa.

You definitely can run into issues with the Serpa if you start your draw without pressing the button it will lock up. I am seriously looking at the GCodes

I'll throw my hat in this one for G-code with the RTI and what ever mounting option you choose (MOLLE, etc). I run it on the belt with body armor and don't have a problem with clearance. The model I use has a hood on it but with it down it still offers enough retention that you can run,get up ,down etc without worrying you're gonna have it fall out on you.

G-code holsters are, IMO, one of the more reasonably priced holster systems out there. They are about half the price of a Safariland with the same if not better quality. The RTI system is also nice as it is low profile but still allows you to quickly move the holster from one platform to another if you run different kit.

+1 on the G Code. I was running around with an Army cat who had one of those rigs on a quick detach platform and it was nice. Also, if I am not mistaken, I can buy G-Code adapters to fit my Safariland holsters to the G-Code platforms.

I did not know they had a holster with a retention device-I like that. Aside from not losing my gun in a fast paced match, I run the ALS because I shoot NRA TPC matches and they require retention, so I will look in to that. Thanks.

Safariland ALS on a safariland single strap leg shroud with the drop flex adapter and the MLS plate and fork. The fork is great because you can instantly remove it from the thigh rig and put it onto a belt, chest rig etc..... If your matches require a higher level of weapon retention then look at the SLS hood holster(which I do not like).

Using the single strap shroud with the drop flex adapter will lower it from belt height but it will not flap around at all. For prone shooting wear it a bit further back on your belt.

I found that a holster on a battle belt it too high for me and using a low ride belt holster just means it's going to flap around because the belt attachment loops are not connected directly to the bulk of the holster. The safariland setup puts the pistol right where your hand is when you're standing as normal.

How is the drop on the molle adapter for the gcode? I like the back end of the grip on my custom2 to be no higher than the middle of my normal belt. I figured the same for the war belt since it will be attached to the inner belt, I think. I like the safarilandish retention system on the XST holster. Also, Anyone know if the xst holster for the 1911 is a cocked and locked style? I figure it would be. Definately interested but I need some drop on it. I HATE mid and high ride holsters especially high ride. And I want to avoid a drop leg holster. I will be hikin with it alot. Also, Zero Three, Ive seen you post pics like this before. Was wondering, These pics of your team members? You?

The drop is about normal as where it would sit on your pants belt. It may be a tad lower depending on where you wear your battlebelt around your waist. If I ran any pouches on the side plates of my armor carrier there might be an issue as the holster with gun in it rides as seen in the picture above. The molle adapter attaches using the molle strips but they offer other options if you want to run the belt through the RTI platform instead. G-code has a lot of options for the base RTI platform to choose from depending on how your gear is set up. see link http://www.tacticalholsters.com/category/Accessories.html

I have a G-code XST holster for a 45 that I can swap out between the one in the picture when I want to run the 45, it takes a few seconds to do and nothing comes off of the battle belt, just detach the 9mm holster and attach the 45 holster. In both cases the holster doesn't flop around or flex out of position. If you wanted it a bit lower but not have to go to a leg strap holster I would say go with the RTI duty mount platform as it looks to hang a bit lower than the molle adapter.

The picture is of me during a LEO/MIL 2 man tactics course I was teaching.The XST hood for the 1911 is designed for hammer back use, as pictured. If you try and close the hood with the hammer down, the hood won't close. There is just enough material to keep the hood from closing with the hammer down but if you wanted to carry it in that manner a few minutes with a file would make it possible.

YEP, I think I decided on my holster. Im goin by the code. Ha ha. I was kinda thinkin about the duty belt adapter cuz I would like to hook it to the inner belt under the SGPB. Definately like the 1911 holster being a cocked and locked setup. No filing will take place on the hood. Lol dammit, 1911's Are supposed to be carried with the hammer back, thumb safety on. And I like the hood/thumbsnap type holsters for the "Extra Hammer Block". And cuz Im used to them. How do you like the RTI system? Is it pretty secure? I dont think I really need the quick change option because my go to side arm/best friend is the 1911. Old design, yes, but damn they run good. Of course, I do have alot of respect for the Glock pistols too. I got a 26OD for concealed carry. Its a cute wittle thing... It barks though. And bites sometimes. lol A Glock 21 would be nice... 13 rds of 45ACP versus 8 in my Kimber. Well hell, maybe the quick change will be handy... Also, This is kind of a dork question but, the Gcode with hood, When the weapon is holstered, It will stay in the holster tightly right? Their fitted good? I figure they are. Was just makin sure. The RTI system is one of the better quick attach/detach systems I've seen out there, it's very secure.The holsters are perfectly fitted and the guns are snuggly retained, the hood is just an added feature for those who prefer them. What you will pay for 2 G-code holsters you would pay for one Safariland holster of similar design. As I said before, G code is as good or better than similar model Safariland holsters IMO.

+1- Been using G code stuff for quite a while. Never an issue with quality or performance.

1) Yes it's a HSGI belt "sure grip battle belt)

2) The inner belt is made by HSGI as well. It is made specifically for the battle belt. Not for holding up your pants. HSGI also makes a belt for your pants.

3) The cobra buckle does nothing but give it a cool factor. You pay for that cool factor. Order it with the heavy duty buckle, not the cobra.

Thanks for the info, Im definately gettin the gcode with the hood. Im still tryin to decide on the RTI. It looks like a better feature every time I look at it. Thanks again.

2) Its the Cobra riggers belt with hook material on the inside and its sized bigger for the HSGI belt right?

3) Why wouldnt you want the cobra buckle? I have them on my TAB Elite gear sling and LOVE them. IMO, I thought the cobra as a belt buckle would be slicker than snot on ice in a rainstorm. What dont you like about it on your belt aside from the price increase?

2) Correct. Guess I wasn't all that clear in my translation.

3) Don't misunderstand me. I love my HSGI battle belt. I'm just stating the cobra buckle is not necessary for the functionality of the belt. It's got a cool factor for sure.

I've tried several for my glock17 with x300 and like the safariland 6004 ( I think thts the one lol) drop holster but have since gone to a DIY Kydex holster on my battle belt and it works realy well. That is once you have mastered the art of Kydex! Buying all the tools was a bit pricy but it has proven to me that make / buy what's right for you is the best option. I've tried many and I think a lot of people have done the same till they finally found the right one.

TRIAL AND ERROR MAN...LOL

not super high speed, but this is working pretty well for me at the moment. i've used it in a couple matches. the holster was made by asm1 (frankie) and it is by far the best kydex holster i have owned. very happy with it.

I have a DSG Alpha holster for my glock. I pulled off the belt loops and put on some molle Malice clips and it is perfect. Nice and low profile, draws smoothly, and sits very well. I'd recommend it for the budget conscious. I've got mine on a cheap chi-com knock off battle belt until I have the extra scratch for a better one. I also must say I highly recommend the HSGI double-decker tacos. It will allow you to run AR mags or your bolt gun mags without setting up extra gear.


ETA: My DSG Alpha is for a G17/X400. They have about every combination you can think of.
